Summer Bike Valet Volunteer Opportunity

Role: Bike Valet
Project: The Bike Valet
Organization: BEST - Better Environmentally Sound Transportation
Location: Vancouver BC

Job Description:

Since 2006, BEST’s (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation) Bike Valet has been providing professional, secure, coat-check style bicycle parking in and around Metro Vancouver. The Bicycle Valet offers convenient and secure bicycle parking for FREE to cyclists and self-propelled vehicle users at Lower Mainland events throughout the year. Think of us as a coat check for bikes, but way more fun. Every bike we park is one more car off the road and one more person who discovers how great it feels to roll to a community event. The Bicycle Valet volunteer attendant position involves a number of different responsibilities in setting up and dismantling bicycle parking facilities. As a key team member, you'll welcome cyclists, securely park bicycles, and happily provide information about the Bicycle Valet service.

Bike Valet Responsibilities:

  • Welcome cyclists with a smile, get their bikes parked safely, and address inquiries about the Bicycle Valet service while ensuring exceptional customer service delivery.
  • Coordinate the setup, operation, and dismantling of lightweight equipment and bicycle parking facilities at seasonal and event locations.
  • Hand out bike claim tickets and keep the valet area organized and flowing.
  • Uphold BEST’s values and commitment to sustainable transportation practices, promoting awareness and engagement among team members and patrons.
  • Help set up and break down equipment before and after each event.
  • Bring the good vibes — your energy sets the tone for the whole event.

We're looking for:

  • Friendly and approachable people with an eagerness to learn
  • Reliable and punctual volunteers
  • Team players who communicate clearly
  • Volunteers who enjoy working alongside others and thrives in a crew environment
  • Those who work calmly under pressure

Time Commitment:

Flexible shifts are available throughout the summer months. Volunteers may sign up for individual shifts or multiple dates, depending on availability. Shift length can vary but a typical commitment could be between 2 and 7 hours.

Volunteer benefits:

  • Opportunity to gain event and community engagement experience
  • Meet new people and contribute to a positive community initiative
  • Be a part of the most popular sport and cultural events like the World Cup, Whitecaps games, and The Khatsahlano Street Party throughout the Lower Mainland
  • Volunteer hours
  • Professional reference upon request

How to Apply:

Please submit a short application using our online form, providing your name, email address, phone number and your availability throughout the upcoming months. Successful applicants will receive additional information about training and scheduling.
