Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and responsible individual to join our Board of Directors as the Treasurer for a 2-year volunteer term (2026–2028). As Treasurer, you will oversee the organization’s financial health and stewardship, ensuring transparent and accurate financial practices that support our mission and long-term sustainability. The term officially starts after WildResearch’s Annual General Meeting in February 2026; however, it is preferred that the new Treasurer be available in between November and January to gain training from the outgoing Treasurer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain oversight of the organization’s finances, including budgeting, bookkeeping, and reporting.
  • Work with volunteers and staff to ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Support annual financial reports and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage restricted vs. unrestricted funds and deferred revenues in line with grant guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing budgets for grant applications and annual planning.
  • Work closely with the President and other Board members to ensure financial transparency and accountability.
  • Ensure timely payment of invoices and reimbursements in accordance with WildResearch policies.
  • Maintain organized financial records for transparency and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and numerical skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with accounting software (QuickBooks experience an asset).
  • Understanding of non-profit finance, restricted funds, or grant management is an asset.
  • Integrity, reliability, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Interest in conservation, science communication, or environmental initiatives is a plus.

Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 8-10 hours per month, including monthly Board and Executive Board meetings, preparation of reports, and bookkeeping duties.
