2026-2027 RRA BOARD RECRUITMENT

POSITION: Treasurer
TERM: 4 Year Term
TYPE: Non-profit Board (unpaid)

Rainbow Routes Association (RRA) is a registered not-for-profit (NFP) charity with a mission to advance and promote trails, provide leadership, create partnerships, and engage the community to continuously improve our network of non-motorized routes and offer outstanding natural experiences.

We are recruiting a volunteer Treasurer for our Board of Directors for 2026-2027.

As a Board Member, you will help support our mission and encourage trail development for health, adventure, and connection to nature on our 30+ wilderness and urban trails. Specific areas of work for the Board of Directors include: governance, fundraising, advocacy, communications and marketing, and ensuring the financial health of the organization. The Board of Directors is also involved in the key activities of the organization including trail building projects, guided hiking programs, and events.

Responsibilities:

The Board sets vision and direction for the organization and ensures that there are sufficient resources and organizational capacity to carry out our mandate. Board members are required to:

  • Attend monthly board meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Serve on board committees as required, bringing relevant expertise to committee discussions and activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan and ensure alignment with its mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure the organization operates in compliance with legal and ethical standards, oversee risk management practices, and support the evaluation of the organization's performance.
  • Review and approve the annual budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure appropriate financial controls and accountability.
  • Engage in fundraising activities to support the financial stability and growth of RRA by leveraging personal networks, making contributions, and participating in fundraising events.
  • Support RRA's special events at various community functions, acting as an ambassador for the organization and working to increase membership and membership engagement.

Board Member Term and Time Commitment:

  • Directors serve a [4] four-year term, which may be renewed. A member can serve again after a year off.
  • Monthly board meeting of +/- 1.5hrs, generally on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6 pm
  • Finance Committee monthly meeting as required
  • Executive Committee monthly meeting +/- 1 hr generally on the 2nd Tuesday of the month
  • One full or half-day strategic retreat, typically held in the winter
  • Occasional participation in special projects: peer review of documents, review of grant writing, developing/updating policy, fundraising, and trail-related initiatives.

Strongest candidates will have some or all of these assets:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant [CPA] or Chartered Accountant [CA] designation
  • Full understanding of accounting software i.e. Quickbooks [including payroll]
  • A strong interest and passion for trails, nature, health and wellness, and community.
  • Non-profit board experience or a willingness to learn.
  • Spirit of collaboration.
  • Community connections of a varying nature.
  • Experience with and a willingness to assist in revenue generating strategies.
  • Ability to speak and write in French or other languages (including Indigenous languages) spoken in Greater Sudbury.
