Position: EcoCamp Volunteer – Spring Break
Organization: Stanley Park Ecology
Location: Vancouver, BC

Role Description

Do you enjoy working with children and spending your days outside? You can help connect young people with nature by volunteering as an EcoCamp Assistant this Spring Break! Stanley Park Ecology (SPE) runs outdoor day camps for children aged 7 – 11 based in Stanley Park each spring.

This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the park, gain experience working with children in an educational and outdoor setting, and help empower children to connect with the outdoor world in meaningful ways. EcoCamp Assistants will work with camp staff to provide a quality day camp experience for kids in nature!

Duties

Alongside SPE Educators, EcoCamp Assistants will:

  • Participate enthusiastically in camp activities and be a positive role model
  • Set up and clean up camp equipment and activities each day;
  • Assist in supervising EcoCampers, following camp safety guidelines;
  • Encourage respect for nature, personal property, camp equipment and facilities;
  • Communicate with camp staff to work as a team;
  • Carry materials and equipment to and from locations within the Park.

Time Commitment

Our Spring Break EcoCamp dates are:

  • Week 1: March 16-20
  • Week 2: March 23-27

Volunteer shifts are four hours long with morning (8:30am-12:30pm) and afternoon (12:30pm-4:30pm) shifts available.

We are looking for volunteers to commit to at least one week of camp.

Location

Our Spring Break EcoCamp will be taking place in-person in Stanley Park.

Training

There will be a mandatory in-person training session on March 7th from 12-4pm.

Requirements

  • Proactive communication, flexibility, and leadership skills;
  • A willingness to work outdoors, come rain or shine;
  • Experience working with elementary school children is an asset;
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old.
