2 Positions: Software Developer Volunteer AND Volunteer Coordinator

About LEAF:

Leaders in Environmentally Accountable Foodservice (LEAF) is Canada’s only nationwide, non-profit food service certification, education and advocacy program. Established in 2009, LEAF helps restaurants reduce their environmental impact and makes it easy for patrons to identify green restaurants. We work with all types of foodservice facilities including restaurants, cafes, food trucks, campuses and tourist locations. Our mission is to lead and advance change toward sustainable foodservice operations.


SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

About the Role:

The Software Developer will be leading the development of an interactive, comprehensive, user-friendly and secure platform to host our LEAF evaluation, certification, education and operation, in collaboration with LEAF’s Environmental and Evaluation Team and UX/UI designer.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with LEAF’s Environmental and Evaluation Team and UX/UI designer to understand the vision for the software, including its scope and features
  • Develop a software for LEAF that meets the team’s vision
  • Communicate the progress and any updates, questions and/or challenges effectively and promptly with the team
  • Produce clean, efficient code based on specifications
  • Integrate software components and third-party programs
  • Verify and deploy programs and systems
  • Gather and evaluate user feedback
  • Recommend and execute improvements
  • Available for media opportunities

Role Requirements:

  • Formal environmental education, preferably a Master’s level degree, in Environmental Science or similar
  • Auditing experience
  • LEED AP or similar an asset
  • Foodservice experience/knowledge an asset
  • Independent auditors must have their own business in place and provide a minimum of 2 references from previous clients

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

About the Role:

The Volunteer Coordinator will create volunteer roles based on the needs of the organization and oversee the recruitment, onboarding, training and management of volunteers across all departments. The position will entail maintaining volunteer personnel files and a volunteer database, collecting and logging volunteer hours, maintaining an engagement strategy and creating onboarding materials. The candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to provide ongoing support to each volunteer across LEAF.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate role descriptions that fulfill organizational programming, operations and strategies, as well as support the needs of the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Recruit an array of volunteers across a variety of staffing channels.
  • Collect and log volunteer hours using TimeCamp and Trello.
  • Supervise and manage volunteers.
  • Standardize the onboarding process and create and/or update training materials, including resource lists and standard operating procedure documents.
  • Provide staffing with event support as needed.
  • Commit to regular check-ins and support sessions to ensure volunteers are sufficiently trained and engaged.
  • Maintain volunteer personnel files while upholding privacy and confidentiality terms outlined in Code of Conduct.
  • Lead volunteer community of practice by demonstrating excellent communication and commitment to LEAF’s operations.

Role Requirements:

  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and has the ability to engage with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Has knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, as well as Project Management software Trello.
  • Embraces challenging situations with a person-centered approach.
  • Has some knowledge and strong interest in environmental sustainability, especially related to the foodservice industry.
  • Volunteer management/coordination experience and DEI training an asset.
