Board of Directors Application

Position: Board of Directors Member (Volunteer)
Organization: Blooming boulevards
Location: Mississauga-based Hybrid — most meetings are virual but most activities are in-person in the Mississauga area, GTA, Ontario

Blooming Boulevards is a registered charity run by volunteers, a group of civic-minded Mississauga residents who want to do what we can to help the environment and promote community well-being. Founded in early 2019, we are focused on growing our programs and activities.

• Mission: We connect neighbourhoods to nature, providing a network of native habitat gardens and opportunities for inclusive community engagement, education, and collaboration.
• Vision: Our vision is a city-wide environment that supports well-being for all of its inhabitants - wildlife and natural resources as well as people. We envision a city with a resilient, biodiverse ecosystem that fosters community engagement through meaningful interactions with nature.

The position:

We are seeking enthusiastic Board Members who are committed to nature and environmental advocacy by bringing together individuals, communities, organizations, and local policymakers to effect meaningful change.

While preference will be given to Mississauga residents, all qualified applicants are welcome to apply. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in:

• Conservation and horticulture, especially gardening, native plants and insect ecology
• Business administration and HR
• Marketing and communications
• Finance and fundraising

Responsibilities: As a valued Member of the Board of Directors, you will:

• Provide leadership to achieve our mission and uphold our values.
• Execute our strategic vision to deliver on organizational goals.
• Ensure high standards of governance and fiscal responsibility.
• Act as an ambassador for Blooming Boulevards within the community.

Requirements:

We are an all-volunteer organization. Board members are focused on governance but have operational management responsibilities as well.

• 3-year term (renewable), elected by our membership.
• Time commitment averages 6 to 8 hours per month annually, depending on the season.
• Attend at least 9 of our two-hour monthly board meetings, plus all member meetings.
• Attend additional planning and committee meetings as needed.
• Manage volunteers and lead/actively participate in our program services as needed.
