We are seeking interns for our 2026 growing season!

Position: Organic Vegetable Farm Intern
Farm: Grey Wolf Gardens

Location: Cochrane, Northern Ontario
Housing: on-farm accommodation (see below)

Are you are interested in learning how to grow your own food?

Would you like to work with Northern Native communities?

Are you interested in improving food security for people in the North?

Grey Wolf Gardens is an organic mixed vegetable farm in Northern Ontario that provides fresh organic produce to communities in the North, including 25 Native families through our partnership with the Ininew Friendship Centre.

We have an excellent team of young, friendly farm workers, a great farm culture, very comfortable on-farm accomodations, and tons of wild spaces to explore! Learn to grow your own food, make herbal medicines, work with First Nation communities and so much more! Get a taste for Northern living and experience all the beauty that the North has to offer.

Working with us, you will learn:

  • Mixing plant starter soil mixes, seed starting, nursery management and seedling care
  • Bed prep for planting
  • Transplanting, direct seeding, and paperpot planting
  • Fertilization, irrigation and weed and pest management
  • Proper harvest technique and post-harvest handling
  • The harvesting of wild medicinal plants and the preparation of herbal products
  • How to drive a tractor and use other machines like a mini-excavator and a BCS walk behind tractor

We run a 25 family CSA and run two farmer’s markets. We also have a partnership with the native community, where we manage a demonstration garden on their Cultural Grounds and provide some workshops throughout the season to the community members. The Cultural Grounds is also where traditional ceremonies and activities take place, like sweat lodges, meat smoking, hide preparation and tanning and more.

Payment is a $400 weekly stipend. We also offer on-farm accommodation. Our farm staff have their own fully furnished house with all the amenities, as well as use of the farm truck for travel into town. Additionally, we offer unlimited produce from the farm as well as a food stipend for foods purchased from town on top of the labour stipend. We have monthly group dinners and bonfires, and there are lots of things to do in town as well!

After a long day on the farm, you’re only a 15 minute drive into town where you can relax on the beach, go for a swim in Lake Commando or grab an ice cream!

If you are interested in learning how to grow your own food, making your own herbal medicines, working with Native communities, and being part of an awesome team, get in touch today!
