Non-Profit Board Positions

Positions: Director At Large
Type: board of directors positions / unpaid
Organization: RAVEN
Location: remote, anywhere in Canada

Being part of RAVEN’s Board of Directors is more than a governance role; it’s a commitment to uphold Indigenous rights, protect the planet, and be part of a community grounded in justice, courage, and care.

RAVEN is an Indigenous-led organization that raises legal defense funds to uphold Indigenous rights and defend lands and waters. Our work is guided by Indigenous laws and grounded in relationships of respect and reciprocity.

As a member of RAVEN’s Board, you’ll join a circle of thoughtful, engaged leaders who bring their voices, experiences, and energy to advance a shared vision: Indigenous rights are upheld, the land, water, and climate are protected for all.

What It’s Like to Serve

Serving on RAVEN’s Board means learning and leading together. You’ll participate in collaborative discussions, support an incredible staff team, and help guide an organization that’s respected across the country for its impact and integrity.

We recognize that governance can look and feel different when it’s rooted in Indigenous worldviews. At RAVEN, we strive for a board culture that’s relational, inclusive, and courageous; one where questions, reflection, and growth are encouraged.

Your Role

As a Director, you will:

  • Provide strategic guidance to ensure RAVEN continues to grow with integrity and purpose.
  • Uphold RAVEN’s mission, vision, and values in all decisions and interactions.
  • Support financial sustainability through stewardship of budgets and fundraising activities.
  • Champion Indigenous rights and environmental justice, serving as an ambassador for RAVEN’s work in your networks.
  • Participate actively in board meetings (approximately every two months) and contribute to committees or special projects.
  • Support and collaborate with the Executive Director through strong, respectful governance practices.

Who You Are

  • We’re looking for people who are:
  • Passionate about Indigenous sovereignty and climate justice
  • Eager to learn from and work alongside Indigenous leadership.
  • Experienced or interested in one or more areas such as governance, law, finance, fundraising, communications, Indigenous rights, or environmental advocacy.
  • Thoughtful listeners, bridge-builders, and community-minded individuals.
  • Willing to contribute time, energy, and resources to support RAVEN’s mission.

Commitment

  • Time: Approximately 4–6 hours per month (including meetings and events)
  • Compensation: This is a volunteer position. Reasonable expenses related to board duties may be reimbursed.

How to Apply

If you feel called to walk with RAVEN on this journey, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send us your resume and a short letter or email sharing:

  • Why you’d like to join RAVEN’s Board
  • What skills or perspectives you would bring
