Volunteer Positions

Positions: Youth Eco-Steward Volunteers
Organization: Invasives Canada
Location: anywhere in Canada

Join youth-focused environmental initiatives to stop the spread of invasive species across Canada. If you are between 12 and 30 years old and want to be a driver of positive change in your community, sign up to join Invasives Canada’s Youth Eco-Stewards (YES) Program today! This is an opportunity to do good while gaining practical, hands-on work experience, as well as networking, and skill/leadership-development opportunities.

Responsibilities and roles of a YES volunteer are varied, as we can tailor the program to each volunteer’s interests and career development. A YES volunteer will design and lead their own community project on their own or as part of a team. Examples of community projects include: planting/maintaining a pollinator garden, a weed pull in a local neighbourhood or backyard, a community litter cleanup, designing education and outreach materials, data input and management, helping local conservation organizations, and much more!

Skills:

  • Help prevent the spread of invasive species and help keep ecosystems healthy.
  • Acquire first-hand experience with the biodiversity and geography of your home province.
  • Design and lead your own community project or join another one.
  • Participate in virtual and in-person events throughout your region.
  • Get training in habitat restoration and invasive species management.
  • Learn how to identify invasive species and understand the impacts on our ecosystems.
  • Learn from Indigenous communities and knowledge-sharers.
  • Join a safe and inclusive space to feel welcome, supported, and valued. Earn volunteer/service hours, a certificate of completion, and professional references.

Requirements:

  • For passionate young adults between the ages of 12-30.
  • No other requirements!

Registered participants are encouraged to complete 120 hours of education/training, volunteering, and mentorship.
