Role: Pollinator Garden-Bed Coordinator
Project: Frank Street Bee Butterfly Garden

Place: Frank Street Bee Butterfly Garden, across from 360-384 Frank Street, Centretown Ottawa • In person & online communication
Hours: 2-6 hrs/wk April 15 - Sept 30 (except vacation, school, etc)

Skills needed

• Basic gardening know-how
• Experience or interest in native wildflowers
• Able to work with a group & give instructions
• Able to be sensitive to the experiences & concerns of women, trans, gender identity, ethnicity, ability, & age differences.

Central Ottawa's largest volunteer-run garden, with approximately 75 native plant species & 35 naturalized, has 3 garden beds available for new plant-care & volunteer activity Coordinators!

All beds have established plants, some that can move, & some space for new plants or annual seeds.

Bed sizes: 8.5, 11.5, and 45.0 square meters. All have both full sun & part shade areas.

Job Description:

1. Coordinate plant-care and volunteer activity in a garden bed
2. Participate in a weekly 2-hour work-meet
3. Plan & prepare for activity in advance, as necessary
4. Consult with other bed coordinators on decisions affecting overall design and distribution of plants, & to cooperate as needed.
5. Help volunteers be safe, avoid injury, learn & enjoy.
6. Take time to chat with people passing by
7. Ensure sufficient water. May be done with watering at other beds
8. Maintain a pollinator water station
9. Pick up trash
10. Stake up broken plants
11. Move new stray sprouts to a patch, or in pots for sale or giveaway.
12. Control weeds
13. Maintain signs
14. Maintain plant i.d. markers
15. Try to participate in volunteer social happenings, the August Pride street party event, plant sales.
