Our country is burning.

Across Canada, communities are once again being forced from their homes by unprecedented wildfires.

Families are losing homes, livelihoods, their lives.

Meanwhile, 10,000 have died in June alone, as a result of unprecedented heat waves. 

These are not “natural disasters”. Scientists have repeatedly warned that climate change — driven largely by burning fossil fuels — is making wildfires and extreme weather ever more destructive.

This month, it's Indigenous communities that have been struck the worst.

But like canaries in the coal mine, it's a clear sign of what's coming for all of us.

Fires. Storms. Floods.

Heat waves. Crop failures. Food shortages.

We need to abandon fossil fuels and the dogma of growth at any expense.

• True North Aid – Provides practical humanitarian support to wildfire evacuees from northern and remote Indigenous communities.
• First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of BC – Helps First Nations in British Columbia prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
• Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity – Supports emergency response and recovery efforts for Namaygoosisagagun First Nation, which was devastated by the fires.
• Canadian Wildfire Fund (Red Cross) – Provides emergency shelter, food, and evacuation support.
• Northern Reach Rescue Network – Provides food, veterinary care, temporary fostering and transportation for animals displaced by wildfires.
