About Elements Society

At Elements Society, we’re on a mission to inspire environmental action through education.

Our interdisciplinary, action-oriented programs equip learners with the skills they need to take environmental action at home, school and in the community.

Through our programs — EcoCooks, Zero Waste Place, Journey to Zero Waste, and FERN — we reach thousands of learners each year across British Columbia and Alberta, in both English and French.

About the role

We are inviting applications for new Directors to join our Board. Elements has a governance board. Directors lend their judgment, perspective, and networks to help steward the organization, approving strategy and budgets, supporting the Executive Director, and championing Elements in the wider community. Our staff team leads the day-to-day work.

This is a volunteer role. Under our bylaws, no compensation is provided.

• Term: Two years, with the option to renew
• Time commitment: A few hours per quarter
• Meetings: Four board meetings per year via Google Meet (6:00–8:00 PM Pacific), plus an Annual General Meeting
• Location: Directors can be based anywhere in Canada, our current board spans BC and Alberta

Who we're looking for

We welcome candidates who are passionate about environmental education and who bring perspectives, experiences, and skills that can help strengthen our organization and broaden our impact. Whether you are an experienced board member or considering your first governance role, we encourage you to apply. While not required, the following experience would be considered an asset:

• Fundraising, philanthropy, or donor relations
• Legal, policy, or governance experience
• Human resources or people development
• Financial management, accounting, or budgeting
• French language proficiency
