"Hands on the Land"
A Land & Community Stewardship Program
A different kind of work/stay Program

Workstay: Hands on The Land
Type: live, learn & work (incl. accom., produce, more)
Farm: Abundance Community Farm

Location: Agassiz, Lower Mainland, BC
Transportation: We welcome applicants from ALL over.  But please know that our farm is not accessible by public transport so having a vehicle of your own is strongly encouraged
Housing: Live on-site (see below)

This is not an ordinary volunteer position. The Abundance Community Farm “Hands on the Land” program is an invitation into a living learning field where land, food, and community are teachers.

We are looking for dedicated, community-minded individuals to join us for the 2026 season (May to October) as part of our Hand on the Land Program. This is more than just a volunteer opportunity—it’s a chance to immerse yourself in farm life, contribute meaningfully, and experience a simpler, more connected way of living.

Our WorkStays are an essential part of keeping the farm and community thriving.

For those who feel the call toward regenerative farming and a conscious community, this land-based residential program offers a grounded, low‑hours contribution (15 hrs/week) paired with mentorship, relational practices, and real experience of shared living.

You will work with soil, seeds, food forests, and medicinal plants — and you will also practice the inner and relational skills required to live well with others: consent, compassionate communication, self‑regulation, circling, sociocracy, and stewardship. In addition to mentorship in these areas you will also benefit by being a part of our many ceremonies we hold on land - sound baths, grief rituals, seasonal honorings, community skills shares, NVC empathy cafes and so much more!

This workstay is for people who:

  • Want to work hands-in-the dirt learning about organic food systems
  • Want to work on a regenerative agriculture project
  • Are keen to develop interpersonal and community-based skills
  • Want to be nourished by the land and willing to be changed by it
  • Are keen in being / becoming a human contributing to a better world for all beings

You will leave with practical farming skills, deeper relational capacity, and a clearer sense of your role as a steward of life — not just here, but wherever you go next.

Since we’re a close-knit community, we take care in selecting the right folks for our Hands On The Land Program—after all, we’ll be living, working, and growing together as friends, co-workers, and farmily! Many who come once feel called to return, and we love to see folks return, honouring their learned skills and experience with greater opportunities to learn, to steward and step into leadership.

To help create a meaningful experience for everyone, we ask for a minimum commitment of 90 days. Space is limited, as we have only three dedicated rooms, though we do have additional spots available for those with their own campers.

We ask that only serious applicants apply. Please note that we do NOT provide any documentation to support any Canadian VISA needs. And we strongly recommend having your own vehicle for your time here.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, we’d love to hear from you!

Can you summarize briefly the offer / exchange?

Accommodation is available between May 1st - October 31st. There are three heated, private bedrooms dedicated to long-term Hands on the Land volunteers in the shared barn. Small trailers, live-in vans or tents may be accommodated upon request. Shared facilities include a large kitchen, two large shared barn-style “living rooms”, a dining hall, full washrooms/showers and laundry facilities.

Fresh fruit and produce are available from the garden during harvest season, late June to the end of October. Opportunity to participate in potluck shared meals 1-2 times per week with other farm members and the community.

Each weekend from May to October we have groups of community members and visitors join the farm for weekend activities — including garden work parties, making music, dancing, camp fires, river swimming, mountain hiking, storytelling, kids activities, Qi-gong, yoga, sharing circles, conscious movement practices, ecstatic dance, empathy cafés and much more. These activities are a co-creation of our community and you are welcome to join in.

If you are a facilitator or wish to hone your skills or try out new offerings in a welcoming and friendly community, we would gladly discuss with you how to support you doing so. It's our hope that your time here is a fruitful incubation time for what you wish to put out in the world.
