Want to help save Canada's most endangered bird?

Needed: Northern Spotted Owl Volunteers
Organization: British Columbia Conservation Foundation
Location: Langley, Lower Mainland BC

The Northern Spotted Owl Breeding Program is always looking for volunteers to support our conservation efforts.

Lend a hand at our facility in Fort Langley or join us at events across the Greater Vancouver area. There are lots of ways you can make a difference.

Volunteers MUST be at least 16 years old and be able to drive themselves to the site. We are not accessible by public transit and cannot accommodate pick ups and drop offs. Please do not apply if you do not fulfill this requirement. Please note that the NSOBP is a non-smoking work environment and the facility is not wheelchair accessible.

No experience is needed as we fully train and provide equipment for volunteers.

OPPORTUNITIES:

RODENT CARE & CLEANING

Help maintain our rat and mouse prey colonies to keep our owls fed with fresh, nutritious food. You will clean and disinfect empty rodent enclosures and owl food dishes, refill water bottles, feed mice, and help with general cleaning.

Time Commitment: Minimum four consecutive hours every two weeks for at least three months.

SITE MAINTENANCE

Join us in maintaining our 25-acre forested property. This is important for our buildings, roads, aviaries, and ultimately keeping the owls safe. You will help with invasive species removal, grass cutting, raking, snow removal, and owl aviary maintenance.

Time Commitment: Minimum four consecutive hours every two weeks for at least three months.

OUTREACH & EDUCATION

​​Represent the NSOBP at various public education events throughout the Greater Vancouver area. You will engage with members of the public and assist staff with Small Eyes, our glove-trained spotted owl. Help educate others on our conservation efforts and actively contribute to our fundraising.

Time Commitment: Minimum three events per year.
