Location: Virtual/remote/hybrid. Council meetings are conducted over Zoom from Toronto, but councillors can join virtually, or opt to travel (with expenses covered by PGO).

Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as volunteer Non-Registrant Public Appointees on our Council. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise and make a real difference in how geoscience is practiced in Ontario.

What We Do:
PGO regulates Ontario registered geoscientists, setting high standards and advancing professional practice. Our core mission is public protection, as outlined in the Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000.

Why This Role Matters:
Our Council is comprised of both registered geoscientists and public representatives, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise guide our decisions. As a Non-Registrant Public Appointee, you'll bring valuable insights from outside the geoscience field, helping us better serve the public interest. We currently have three (3) vacancies for this important volunteer role.

What We're Looking For:
We are seeking an Ontario resident committed to public protection and the geoscience profession's integrity. Ideal candidates will possess a combination of the following:

• Expertise in organizational, risk, and financial management, coupled with strong collaborative skills.
• Experience in a not-for-profit or self-regulatory environment (preferred, but not essential).
• A demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity.
• A strong desire to contribute to effective Council performance.
• A willingness to learn about evolving best practices in self-regulation.

What You'll Do:

• Attend approximately 5 Council meetings per year (generally held in downtown Toronto, with virtual options available), typically on Thursdays starting at 9 am and lasting about 6 hours. Travel and accommodation expenses are reimbursed.
• Review meeting documents (approximately 2 hours per meeting).
• Mandatory orientation for new and returning Council members, along with ongoing professional development related to governance and regulatory practices.
• Councillors are generally encouraged to serve on one or two Council committees, requiring additional time.

Current vacancies include two three-year terms and one two-year term positions.
