Volunteer Positions

Position: Farmers' Market Volunteers
Organization: Underpass Park Farmers' Market
Location: 29 Lower River St., Toronto ON

Volunteers are the backbone of Underpass Park Farmers’ Market. Our goal is to connect our community with great local food and to support small businesses and sustainable local agriculture.

For the effectiveness of the Underpass Market, we ask our volunteers be comfortable complying with the following procedures:

  • Being conscientious and courteous at all times
  • Being a team player and following guidance from the Market Staff (Manager and Assistant Manager)

Current volunteer roles:

(1) SET-UP / TEAR-DOWN CREW

Shifts: 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm / 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

An essential part of our volunteer team!

Our set-up and tear-down crew will help a well-organized market during set-up and takedown. You will be helping us transform an empty urban park into a safe marketplace!

  • Set-up/tear-down signage (parking and market signs)
  • Set-up/tear-down furniture for the lounge/dining area
  • Assist with set-up/tear-down games activities
  • Assist market vendors with load-in or load-out
  • Engage with vendors, and watch their booths while they park their cars/use the bathroom/take breaks during the market
  • Physical ability to move event supplies with a dolly and lift up to 30lbs
  • Other miscellaneous tasks
  • Ensuring vendor vehicles are not blocking bike lanes (located on Lower River St) during load-in and load-out
  • Ensuring vendor vehicles are not blocking or double parked on Trolley Crescent
  • Directing the arrival of our vendors during set-up and/or load-out to their area
  • Directing vendors to load in and load out on St. Lawrence St.
  • For the later shift, help ensure waste is being managed properly. Direct community members where garbage receptacles are.
  • Help remind vendors that they are to take their waste after the market

(2) MARKET INFO BOOTH CREW

Help us by being a point of contact for market customers!

On-site at the market on Thursdays, 4pm - 6:30pm.

  • Answer common questions from the public regarding vendors, who is selling what, where to find bathrooms, etc. You will be given all the information to answer these questions from market management
  • Gather data from customers & vendors
