Positions: Community Workshop Assistant
Organization: Sustainable Community Aid Network
Location: Brampton, GTA, Ontario 

Overview

The Community Workshop Assistant supports the successful delivery of the Sustainability on My Mind – Seniors Edition program in Brampton South. Volunteers play an essential role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organized environment for senior participants while contributing to outreach, workshop facilitation, and overall program operations.

Qualifications

  • Interest in community development, sustainability, or senior engagement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work collaboratively
  • Comfortable working in diverse, multicultural environments
  • Willingness to engage directly with seniors
  • Additional languages are considered an asset

Supervision & Structure

Volunteers will work under the direction of the Program Coordinator and will receive clear guidance, task assignments, and ongoing support throughout the program

Key Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Support the distribution of promotional materials across community spaces and partner networks
  • Assist in engaging seniors and encouraging participation, particularly among newcomers and underserved groups
  • Help communicate workshop details clearly and accessibly
  • Conduct short surveys and interviews with seniors to understand their interests, needs, and preferences related to natural health remedies and sustainable living

Workshop Delivery Support

  • Assist facilitators during hands-on activities such as natural remedy preparation and sustainable living practices
  • Guide participants through activities as needed, ensuring clarity and comfort
  • Encourage peer-to-peer interaction and knowledge sharing among participants

Participant Experience & Accessibility

  • Welcome participants, manage sign-in, and provide general assistance throughout sessions
  • Support seniors with varying mobility, language, or accessibility needs
  • Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and culturally sensitive environment

Logistics & Operations

  • Assist with workshop setup, including preparing materials, organizing stations, and ensuring readiness
  • Support cleanup and proper storage of materials after each session
  • Help ensure all materials are distributed and used efficiently

Monitoring & Feedback Collection

  • Assist in collecting attendance and participant feedback
  • Support basic documentation required for program evaluation and reporting

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 3 hours per workshop session
  • Flexible support for outreach, surveys, interviews, and preparation activities between sessions
  • Participation across multiple workshops is preferred for consistency
