Position: Youth Out Trip Leader
Summer Camp: Camp Fircom

This position is for the Polaris and Scamper Leader role at Camp Fircom, located on Gambier Island in the Howe Sound. Polaris is Camp Fircom's Youth Out-Tripping program and Scampers is Camp Fircom's youngest age group of campers.
The Polaris and Scamper Leader is responsible for supporting the Polaris and Scamper Coordinator with all Polaris Adventure sessions as well Scamper camps. Throughout the summer, this position will report to the Polaris and Scamper Coordinator and assist them and the other Polaris Leader with facilitating activities and executing a two or three-night out trip to a nearby campsite on Gambier island with a group of youth aged 13-16. Canoeing and camping experience is an asset.
During Scamper weeks, the Polaris and Scamper Leader is responsible for supporting the Polaris and Scamper Coordinator with all Scamper programming needs. This includes facilitating activities, supervising throughout the day and overnight, and ensuring all sign-out protocols are followed at the end of each session. Scampers are ages 6-8, and are on site from Monday-Wednesday of each Scamper week. The weekly schedule is as follows:

Overview: A short 20 minute water taxi ride from Horseshoe Bay, Camp Fircom is situated on a 120-acre waterfront property with access to ample recreational opportunities, including swimming beaches and hiking trails.
Living Arrangements: During Polaris sessions, accommodation is provided in a tent in the Kasota area, where Polaris campers will stay when on site. During Scamper sessions, accommodation is provided in a shared or private dorm-style building, where the Scampers will stay when on site. Shared washroom facilities are available for the exclusive use of staff, and internet access is available in many community spaces throughout camp.

End Date: August 21, 2026
Wage: $156 per day, plus accommodation, all meals when Food Service is offered, water taxi fares, & staff t-shirt
This is a full-time position during the summer months (July 13 to August 16). As such, the successful candidate is required to live on site during this time period. During the spring and fall months, this position may have the opportunity to be employed on a casual part-time basis, with work hours dependent upon staffing needs.
