Hiring: Permaculture farming
Type: age 30 & under / summer

The Permaculture Farm Worker will...

  • Provide hands-on labour (constructing, installing) for various research and demonstration projects in small scale renewable energy installations (solar, irrigation) & food security activities in garden/orchard maintenance, composting, etc in support of berry production;
  • Berry/orchard crop weed control, compost mulching, pruning, new planting and fencing
  • Harvesting and processing of berry and other wild-edible fruit
  • Support development of online (video, webinar) resources for demonstrating green household living & property stewardship
  • Homestead guest accommodation maintenance and activity promotion
  • Shared work to update InterraPlan Inc. website (interraplan.ca) using Wordpress editing software
  • Develop virtual resource materials and delivering presentations to community and interest groups
  • Investigate member and community support and training needs for "eco-enterprise" development with a focus on renewable agro-ecological applications
  • Provide assistance with administrative office & organizational support functions
  • Serve as a research support assistant to help with InterraPlan contract and partner projects related to land-use planning and sustainability
  • conduct safe operation with physical ability to use all field equipment for onsite activities (garden implements, brush cutters, shared-use post hole gas powered auger, rototiller, lawn tractor, quad 4x4
  • willing to undertake pre-employment training/safety certifications following skills assessment review
  • have access to their own reliable vehicle for work use with remuneration for approved expenses
  • be willing to accept on-site basic RV or shared accommodation for work fare exchange (1 day per week) and/or low rental rate.

Eligibility

Must be Canadian citizen, 30 years or younger, Be enrolled in a co-op or natural resources program at a recognized post-secondary institution in a program related to the position in agriculture, land-use planning, facility maintenance trades; preferably a relevant applied technology program related to applied technology in the agriculture, or natural resources program (College, or University);

Preference: will be given to candidates who have

  • strong interpersonal communication, independent work and independent learning
  • effective time management and record keeping
  • demonstrated skills in power tools operation and experience on the job or farm light construction, basic electrical, mechanical and/or millwright work preferred
  • demonstrated interest for self-directed learning in renewable farm energy installations (wind-mill and solar water pump assembly, irrigation systems, solar air furnace, solar panel)
  • preferably enrolled in studies within the Peace River region of northern BC or Alberta or other postsecondary or technical program in BC.
  • familiarity with WEB-site development/updating in WordPress program
