Seasonal Full-Time Position

Multiple positions: Farm Hand
Farm: Gaia Organic Seeds
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Anticipated Length of Opportunity: April 1st to June 10th for spring transplanting, or 1st September to 31st October for Fall Harvest & Seed Cleaning.

Summary of Gaia Organics Seeds

Gaia Organics Seeds is a small-scale organic seed company and seasonal nursery dedicated to organic growing practices, ecological stewardship, and community food resilience. We grow a diverse collection of vegetables, herbs, and flowers with a strong focus on biodiversity, soil health, and seed sovereignty. Spring is our most dynamic season — a time of seedling production, planting, and laying the foundation for the year’s crops.

Opportunity

We are seeking motivated, reliable & energetic farm hands to join our small but mighty team during the most vibrant stretch of the early days of the growing season.

This is a hands-on role at the heart of our seed and plant production, supporting organic growing practices and helping bring thousands of seedlings to life.

Key Responsibilities during Spring

  • Seeding, transplanting, and caring for our seedlings
  • Preparing beds and planting field crops
  • Watering, weeding, mulching, and general crop maintenance
  • Supporting light construction projects (trellising, bed prep, moving materials)
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and efficient workspaces
  • Occasional help with market or plant sale preparation

Key Responsibilities during Fall

  • Harvesting fruits / seeds
  • Seed cleaning
  • Putting fields to rest and cleaning workspaces

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Enjoy early morning starts and working with the rhythm of the day
  • Enjoy physical, outdoor work in all kinds of spring weather
  • Are able to lift 40–50 lbs and stay active for full workdays
  • Work well independently and as part of a small, collaborative team
  • Have strong attention to detail, especially when working with seeds and seedlings
  • Are punctual, dependable, and take pride in doing things thoroughly
  • Have previous farm, garden, landscaping, nursery, harvesting or seed cleaning experience (an asset, not required)
  • Feel aligned with organic, ecological, and regenerative agriculture values

Assets:

  • Previous experience in farming, market gardening, landscaping, or nursery work
  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic farm infrastructure
  • Experience working in greenhouses and/or seed starting
  • Interest in organic seed production or small-scale regenerative agriculture

Requirements:

  • Availability to work full-time from April 1 to June 10
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions
  • Reliable transportation to and from the farm
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Overview

Type of Work: Full-time seasonal
Expected Hours: 30-40 per week
Compensation: 18$/h

Weekdays, with some flexibility depending on weather and farm needs

Anticipated Length of Opportunity: April 1st to June 10th for spring transplanting or 1st September to 31st October for Fall Harvest & Seed Cleaning.
