Wildlife protection, conservation

Position: Marketing & Media Lead
Organization: SOSA (Save Our Species Alliance)
Location: Remote (Canada-based, Southern Ontario preferred), Occasional field travel
Type: Full-time contract
Reports to: CEO (Blake Moynes) and COO (Cody Moynes)

ABOUT SOSA

SOSA is a Canadian for-profit conservation brand that connects people to wildlife protection through immersive expeditions, field-authentic storytelling, and strategic partnerships with conservation organizations worldwide. We sit at the intersection of ethical travel, conservation media, and brand partnerships.

We have built relationships with 30+ NGO partners across six continents and delivered expeditions in Alaska, Botswana, South Africa, Costa Rica, the Maldives, and beyond. Every trip produces YouTube documentaries, social reels, photography, and editorial content that fuels storytelling and demonstrates real impact.

Our purpose: connect people to wildlife protection through real experiences and stories that drive action. We show conservation as it is, real work, real people, real outcomes.

THE ROLE

We are hiring a Marketing & Media Lead who can grow into the Creative Director seat for SOSA's media presence. This is a core hire, not a posting role.

We already have great content, a great team, and great partners. What we need is a leader to take what we do and make the most of it: to add purpose, structure, and cadence so marketing reliably drives our projects, trips, and partnerships forward.

You will own the Master Marketing Map, the system that coordinates campaign timelines across all trips, brand partnerships, NGO initiatives, and SOSA's brand pillars. You will sit at the center of our marketing hub, translate opportunities into deliverables for our storytelling team, and drive distribution across every platform we run. You inherit a brand foundation already built (brand guidelines, a marketing roadmap, an established content engine), so you are building on top of momentum, not starting from zero.

You will lead, not micromanage, a distributed team of talented contractors: our long-form / YouTube editorial lead, our short-form / reels lead, our in-field visual storytelling director, our design support, and our external production partner. You manage the content creation and editing teams day to day: you set the creative plan for each project, point the team at the right work, hold the quality and cadence bar, and unblock them. You make sure every deliverable is planned to serve the people it needs to, from the influencers we collaborate with, to our brand partners and their contracted deliverables, to our NGO partners' awareness goals, to SOSA's own brand-building.

This is a growth role. We are hiring for the next five years, not the next five months. SOSA is at an inflection point: scaling trips and projects year over year, moving brand revenue toward retainer and anchor partnerships, and turning our media library into a licensable IP asset. As we add editors and channel managers, you become the person who leads them. The marketing leader who builds the system grows into the senior marketing seat at SOSA, in scope, in team, and in compensation.

If you want a stable role with fixed boundaries, this is not it. If you want to plant a flag, build the function, travel to the field, and grow into a leader of a brand that genuinely matters, this is the role.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Marketing strategy and the Master Marketing Map

  • Own the marketing map: campaign timelines across every trip, brand partnership, NGO initiative, apparel drop, and brand pillar
  • Set and hold a reliable publishing cadence of quality storytelling media across YouTube, short-form, carousels, and newsletter
  • Coordinate SOSA, SOSA Experiences, and Blake Moynes' channels so they amplify each other
  • Run the SOSA content calendar in Asana, keeping campaign statuses, tasks, and due dates current

Cross-platform media architecture

  • Map every SOSA story across Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, and newsletter
  • Define minimum deliverable packages per initiative and hold the production team to them
  • Translate NGO partner initiatives into stories our audience and the wider world care about

Storytelling across our pillars

  • Lead storytelling across SOSA's full content universe: wildlife challenges, wild-spaces protection, travel, SOSA trips, SOSA apparel, partner initiatives, and behind-the-scenes of the team and community
  • Protect and evolve the SOSA brand voice: empowering, authentic, purpose-driven

Hands-on content creation

  • Make the work, do not just manage it. You personally create storytelling media: cutting reels, designing graphics and thumbnails, writing copy, and shaping promo videos for trips, campaigns, and launches.
  • Collaborate with our storytelling director on thumbnails, overlays, and creative hooks for YouTube
  • Set the creative bar by example, so the team sees the standard in your own work
  • Stay close to the audience: monitor and respond to community engagement across our platforms

Brand partnerships and deliverable delivery

  • Lead SOSA's brand-partnership coordination. Take brand-deal meetings and help negotiate sponsorships, which we do as a team, on behalf of SOSA and Blake.
  • Own the handoff from signed deal to delivery: embed each partner's committed deliverables into the specific trips and projects already on the go, with clear owners and deadlines
  • Brief our in-field teams on exactly what to capture for each partner, so our editors have the footage and photos they need to build the sponsored assets and posts
  • Move brand revenue from sporadic deals toward anchor and retainer partners; scope and price deliverable packages and protect usage rights

Creative direction

  • Act as the creative bar for everything that goes out under SOSA, in collaboration with the leadership team
  • Creatively plan each project's deliverables from the start, so a single trip or shoot serves several goals at once: influencer collaborations, brand-partner deliverables, NGO awareness, and SOSA brand-building
  • Develop campaign concepts for trip announcements, brand activations, apparel drops, and conservation moments

In-field production and guest experience

  • Travel to select expeditions to support immersive guest experiences and help the team capture film and photo in the field
  • Make sure the in-field team captures the media our editors need, so every trip converts cleanly into assets and posts
  • Come home from a trip with a clear plan for how that footage becomes the next quarter of content

On-camera presence and brand ambassador

  • Represent SOSA on camera: behind the scenes, in the field, and in curated content across YouTube and social
  • Hold consistent SOSA-aligned messaging, tone, and conduct in everything you front
  • Help document partner impact and field experiences firsthand

Performance and growth

  • Track performance across channels and use insights to sharpen what we publish
  • Prepare monthly performance reports (social and email) with insights and next steps
  • Run social listening to spot conservation conversations, trends, and partnership opportunities

Website and store

  • Manage the relationship with our web developer, and make quick, basic updates in Shopify yourself
  • Own the store and site look: product visuals, product photography, and landing-page aesthetics
  • Co-lead store pricing and product launches with the COO
  • Keep thesosa.com working as a conversion hub for bookings, partnerships, and apparel

Team leadership and production management

  • Manage the content creation and editing teams day to day: brief the work, assign it, review to the quality bar, and keep every deliverable on deadline
  • Own that each project's deliverables are creatively planned up front and involve the right stakeholders: influencers, brand partners and their deliverables, NGO awareness, and SOSA brand-building
  • Work closely with our trip-building and guest-experience lead and our storytelling director
  • Stay available and responsive to a distributed contractor team across multiple time zones
  • Keep the team transparent with weekly status updates, and keep shoot assets organized and searchable in our shared Drive
  • As we grow, hire and lead additional editors and channel managers under your direction

WHO YOU ARE

  • A self-starter and a leader. You will not be micromanaged. You will be trusted to own this and grow it.
  • An entrepreneur at heart. You spot opportunity, take initiative, and build things that contribute to something bigger than yourself.
  • A lifelong learner with a genuine growth mindset. You want to grow into this role and help design it as you go.
  • A strong storyteller with editorial judgement
  • A systems thinker who can see across platforms, campaigns, and partners
  • Comfortable taking brand meetings, talking digital media, and closing deals
  • Fluent in short-form video, including moderate editing skills
  • Comfortable making decisions from analytics, not just instinct
  • Genuinely values-aligned with conservation. You care about why SOSA exists, not just how it markets.
  • Comfortable on camera, representing SOSA as an on-screen presence and brand ambassador
  • Comfortable in a lean, contractor-based team, and ready to travel internationally to the field when it counts

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience managing and growing social channels for a brand or public figure (share concrete examples and metrics)
  • Demonstrated experience with influencer or brand deals: sourcing, pitching, negotiating, or executing
  • Advanced experience creating and editing short-form video
  • Strong graphic-design skills with proficiency in Canva
  • Deep understanding of social platforms, algorithms, and emerging formats
  • Excellent written communication for newsletters, captions, pitches, and contracts
  • Canada-based, ideally in Southern Ontario, and able to drive or fly out of Toronto when occasionally needed (infrequent)
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally for field shoots
  • Reliable, self-directed remote work habits and consistent availability to a distributed team

BONUS

  • Direct experience negotiating brand deals on behalf of a creator, agency, or brand
  • Background in conservation, sustainability, travel, or nonprofit communications
  • Photography or videography skills
  • Email-marketing experience
  • Shopify editing and maintenance, SEO, or AEO experience

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Ownership of the marketing function for a fast-growing conservation company with 30+ NGO partners across six continents
  • A clear growth path. As SOSA grows, this role grows: in scope, in team, and in compensation.
  • Real adventure. You will travel to the field, meet our partners, and help create the stories you market.
  • Direct collaboration with Blake Moynes (Founder, 450K+ following) and a tight team of contractors who genuinely care about wildlife conservation
  • A content engine that is already producing. Your job is to make the most of it, not build from zero.
  • Flexible, remote contract structure with clear scope and deliverables

COMPENSATION

  • Contract compensation: negotiable base retainer and/or hourly, depending on experience, invoiced monthly
  • Field travel: flights, lodging, and food covered by SOSA when you travel for projects and guest experiences

This is a Canadian independent-contractor engagement. You invoice SOSA and are responsible for your own taxes, equipment, and workspace.
