Position: Organic Market Garden – Manager/Worker
Farm: Mackay Farms 

Location: near Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Elora, Ontario
Housing: Possibility of locating an RV or House Trailer on site, to be discussed

Dates: 2027 season

Description

• Approximately one acre organic market garden located on a 50 acre organic farm, approximately 5 km from Elora.
• Fully equipped with a propagation house, irrigation system, two hoop houses, wash pack station, small farm store and tools and equipment.
• Established CSA membership of 19 shares.
• Established farm store clientele
• Many opportunities to increase sales

History

• The Market Garden was established approximately 10 years ago by Rob Mackay who co-owns the farm with his brother Gord.
• Rob made a decision a couple of years ago to concentrate on other environmental initiatives on the farm and sought out a successor for the market garden.
• Lauren Fitzgerald took over the market garden and had two successful seasons before relocating to Grey County to take over a market garden which had the advantage of onsite housing.
• One of Lauren’s employee’s took it over this season, but has decided to go a different direction next year.

Opportunity

• An experienced farmer to take over the management and operation of the market garden, in consultation with Rob
• Opportunity to work as a paid employee with a base salary and profit share
• Possibility of locating an RV or House Trailer on site
• Longer term arrangement can be negotiated.
