About the Role

Enersion Inc. is hiring a Designer, Machines to provide hands-on technical support for the design, fabrication, installation and testing of mechanical equipment. Working with engineering and production teams, the role combines CAD work, shop-floor implementation and the practical integration of nano-porous materials into machinery, HVAC equipment, thermal-vacuum applications and process-piping systems.

This is a green job involving tasks that contribute to positive environmental outcomes and help Canada achieve its net-zero target.

Key Responsibilities

Design and technical documentation
Assist in preparing and interpreting engineering designs, drawings and specifications from agreed requirements. Create and update 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings for machinery, components, HVAC equipment and process piping, including arrangements incorporating nano-porous materials. Assist with process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

Fabrication and production support
Create manufacturing instructions, build sequences and inspection steps. Participate in prototype fabrication and mechanical assembly; use CNC machines as required. Design tools, molds, jigs and fixtures with attention to repeatability, access and manufacturability. Keep drawings and instructions aligned with implemented changes.

Testing and troubleshooting
Carry out a limited range of mechanical tests and analyses of machines, components and materials, including thermal and vacuum-related testing under established procedures. Record results for engineering review, document operating issues, and work with engineering and production colleagues to troubleshoot faults and evaluate changes.

Installation and supervision
Install machinery and participate in assembly, start-up and commissioning of equipment and process piping. Assist in inspecting mechanical installations and construction projects against drawings and specifications, documenting discrepancies. Supervise 3–4 people involved in fabrication, assembly and installation.

Costing and material coordination
Estimate costs and material quantities; prepare bills of materials (BOMs), schedules and technical reports; obtain supplier quotations and support purchasing.

Required Qualifications

Education

College diploma in mechanical engineering technology or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience

5 years or more of relevant experience, including the following:

  • 5+ years in high-volume manufacturing, such as automotive production.
  • 5+ years using SolidWorks, AutoCAD or comparable CAD tools.
  • 5+ years in fabrication, prototyping and mechanical assembly.
  • 3+ years integrating nano-porous materials into mechanical systems through design-support and development work.
  • 3+ years applying thermo-fluid mechanics in nanotechnology-based systems, with a practical technical focus.
  • 3+ years working with the properties of advanced or engineered materials.
  • 3+ years troubleshooting mechanical equipment in manufacturing or R&D.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

Documentation and analysis: Ability to prepare and interpret technical drawings, PFDs and P&IDs, with strong analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.

Software and equipment: 3D graphics and CAD software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word, and operation of CNC machines.

Applied technical knowledge: Practical thermal analysis and test-data recording within established mechanical testing procedures; fluids and aerodynamics; materials.
