Operations Manager, Canadian Water Resources Association

The Canadian Water Resources Association (CWRA) is a national registered charity with members from the public, private and academic sectors who are committed to empowering informed water decision-making. We have been active in the Canadian water community for over 75 years, and we are in an exciting period of developing new capacity, programs, and projects, and improving our member resources.

Position Description: This position is a full-time permanent position to manage our internal operations, including the National Conference and other event support, National Board and Committee work, and membership support, development, and growth.

As Operations Manager, you will also work closely with the Executive Director and the Communications Manager to support CWRA’s operational needs and strategic goals. You will work with staff, contractors, members, volunteers, and the broader water resources audience in Canada to build awareness of CWRA and its programs and projects, while building our community. You must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines while being responsive and connected with the team.

Hours: 40 hours a week with some flexibility and occasional pre-scheduled availability for webinars and weekend meetings and semi-annual travel to conferences. Since we are a national organization, we work across Canadian time zones.

Job Requirements:

  1. A post-secondary diploma or degree and two or more years experience working in a managerial role in a non-profit or non-governmental organization in Canada. Experience in an environmental organization is a plus.
  2. Two or more years experience working with a Board of Directors in Canada.
  3. Excellent professional communication skills, including professional email and phone demeanor.
  4. Strong working knowledge of non-profit financial and organizational guidelines and regulations.
  5. Access to home office with computer (including file backup system and video call capability), telephone/cell phone, and high-speed internet.
  6. Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and other relevant software (e.g., AirTable, Figma, graphic design, content creation, member management databases, etc.)
  7. Experience using Google Suite with multiple user profiles to organize official and working documents.
  8. Experience maintaining a website (Wordpress).
  9. Demonstrated experience supporting event planning for in-person conferences and workshops.
  10. Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and leading multiple ongoing projects.
  11. Willingness and ability to master new skills through independent study and research.
  12. Ability to speak and write in both official languages (French and English) is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide planning, organizational, technical, and registration support for in-person conferences and events (including webinars) across CWRA.
  2. Support the National Board and their committees with scheduling, documentation, and other planning activities.
  3. Maintain and update process and procedure documentation for organizational operations.
  4. Identify opportunities to promote and support CWRA activities, projects, and initiatives.
  5. Monitor info@cwra.org and respond to general enquiries or redirect to other staff.
  6. Provide Membership support services, including client support for members and data analysis and planning to support membership development and growth.
  7. Develop and maintain analytics and reporting material to support staff work and the National Strategic Plan.
  8. Support the development of organizational partnerships.
  9. Manage student and intern project work.
  10. Complete other related tasks as required.

Not Required, but Preferred Skills:

  1. Interest in environmental studies and water issues.
  2. Familiarity with BlueSky, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.
