Position: LEED application co-ordinator / green building research
Type: f/t 14 week contract
Organization: Parsons Brewing Company
Location: Picton, Prince Edward County, Ontario


Located in Prince Edward County, Parsons Brewing Company is looking for a driven, passionate person to aid with our LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification application and assist in creating a framework to expand our commercial brewery in the most sustainable way possible.

Length of contract: 14 weeks
Term: starting as soon as possible
Hourly wage: $15-20 depending on experience

Experience: practical experience in sustainable energy or building practice is desirable.

Nature of work: mainly independent work with daily/weekly checkpoints as needed. learning the basics of the brewing process will be a necessary component of the role

  1. Manage the LEED certification application
    1. Co-ordinate with our engineering firm to provide them will all the necessary information for the application
    2. Compile receipts that detail the building materials etc.
    3. Compile and analyze photos, building permit drawings to describe in detail the construction parameters that relate to LEED requirements.
  2. Analysis of 2016-2017
    1. Analyze our energy usage in the 1) Bottle Shop/Taproom/Restaurant and the 2) Brewery. Compile into a document with peak usage, daily, weekly, monthly and annual metrics.
    2. Water usage at Brewery – calculate water volume per finished litre of beer ratio.
    3. Analyze chemical usage at Brewery (caustic, chlorine dioxide etc)
    4. CO2 usage and cost analysis.
  3. Brewery Building Design research. Network to find the most efficient solution for the following needs.
    1. Cold room design – for example build below grade, draw in cold air during winter/evening, power off/down during the peak hydro hours.
    2. CO2 usage – use gravity in lieu of CO2 to move between tanks. Placement of tanks would be key. Brew house down to FVs down to BTs.
    3. Water usage – most effective use of water in brewing/cleaning. Consider available options.
    4. Waste water treatment – create a simple working document that details the equipment/process of brewery effluent treatment, including an approximate budget required.
    5. Green energy alternatives. Use an existing solar design proposal as a base to create a work document detailing our estimated total electricity needs & budget.
