About the Canadian Centre for Food & Ecology

The Canadian Centre for Food & Ecology (CCFE) is a national charity working to inspire food decisions that nurture people and planet. Through research, communications, and public-facing programs, CCFE explores how food can support healthier people, stronger communities, and thriving ecological systems.

Flavour Harvest is CCFE’s consumer-facing program, bringing people together around delicious seasonal food, local producers, and the connections between how food is grown, how it tastes, and how it supports our communities and the planet.

About the Role

CCFE is looking for a Digital Engagement Coordinator to support Flavour Harvest’s communications, storytelling, and Social Media.

This role is ideal for a creative, curious, and highly organized communicator who enjoys turning real-world experiences into compelling digital stories. You’ll help develop and execute content across social media and other digital channels, capture stories and content at events, and support campaigns that connect people with local food, seasonal eating, farmers, producers, chefs, and community.

The Digital Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Specialist and broader Flavour Harvest/CCFE team to plan, create, publish, and evaluate engaging content.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Content & Social Media

  • Develop creative social media content ideas that bring Flavour Harvest’s programs, people, and stories to life.
  • Research social media trends, formats, and relevant conversations to identify opportunities for timely and engaging content.
  • Create, write, schedule, and publish content across relevant digital and social media platforms.
  • Write engaging captions, copy, promotional materials, and other digital communications in alignment with CCFE and Flavour Harvest’s voice.
  • Support the development and maintenance of content calendars and digital campaigns.
  • Monitor social media and digital performance and contribute to regular analytics and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to grow engagement, reach new audiences, and strengthen Flavour Harvest’s digital presence.

Content Capture & Community Storytelling

  • Attend Flavour Harvest events, activations, and community programming as assigned to capture content and support Social Media.
  • Capture high-quality photography, video, and written content for social media and other communications channels.
  • Conduct short interviews and collect stories, quotes, testimonials, and reflections from farmers, producers, chefs, partners, community members, and participants.
  • Support live or real-time social media coverage during events and activations.

Video & Visual Content Production

  • Edit short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
  • Create social media graphics, promotional materials, and other visual assets using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Support video shoots and content production, including appearing on camera and/or directing others on camera when appropriate.
  • Organize, label, and maintain digital photo, video, and creative assets so they can be easily accessed and reused.
  • Repurpose existing content and footage into new digital storytelling opportunities.

Outreach & Campaign Support

  • Assist with communications and coordination with community partners, collaborators, vendors, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Support the distribution and amplification of promotional materials and campaign assets across relevant channels.
  • Help ensure digital communications are coordinated across campaigns, partners, and programming.

CCFE Communications & Reporting

  • Contribute photography, stories, testimonials, social content, and campaign results to CCFE’s internal and external reporting.
  • Support content collection for CCFE events and organizational communications when needed.
  • Help document the impact and stories emerging from Flavour Harvest programming.
  • Contribute ideas and observations that can strengthen CCFE and Flavour Harvest’s broader communications and engagement strategies.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Creative and curious, with a strong instinct for finding and telling compelling stories.
  • A strong communicator, with excellent writing and editing skills and an ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
  • Social-media savvy, with an understanding of what makes content engaging and shareable.
  • Comfortable behind and/or in front of the camera, with experience capturing photo and video content in dynamic environments.
  • Skilled in short-form video editing and familiar with platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
  • Visually oriented, with experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design tools.
  • Organized and reliable, able to manage multiple content needs, deadlines, and moving pieces.
  • Community-minded and personable, comfortable approaching people, conducting informal interviews, and representing an organization at public events.
  • Adaptable and resourceful, able to work independently while collaborating closely with a small team.
  • Interested in food, community, sustainability, local food systems, agriculture, or related areas.

Experience & Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience creating content for social media and/or digital communications.
  • Experience with photography and video capture, particularly for social media.
  • Experience editing short-form video.
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • An understanding of social media trends, content formats, and platform best practices.
  • Experience working at events, community activations, or in public-facing environments is an asset.

We recognize that strong candidates may not have experience in every area listed above. We encourage people with transferable skills and a demonstrated interest in the role to apply.

Work Flow & Schedule

This is a 15-hour-per-week position with a flexible, hybrid schedule.

The Digital Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Specialist through regular check-ins to:

  • Review priorities and upcoming content needs.
  • Share progress, challenges, and ideas.
  • Coordinate event and content capture schedules.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Social Media.
  • Troubleshoot challenges and develop solutions collaboratively.

The role will require regular in-person attendance at Flavour Harvest events and activations in Toronto, with additional flexibility for remote work and content production as appropriate.
