Title: "Eco" Builder and Maintenance person
Employer: Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort 

Location: 30 Buchanan Drive, Englishtown, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, B0C 1H0
Housing: Staff Rental Housing and access to the kitchen are available onsite. Apply from anywhere in Canada.

 
Work Term:
 8-16 weeks, Spring-Fall 2026 or longer
Compensation: $17-18/hourly for 35 hours per week; more experienced trade people may be able to be placed as well; submit resume, etc we wlll contact with more details for the right person(s)

Job Role and Responsibilities:

  • Essentially help construct and assemble new structures
  • Which include geodesic domes, sleeping barrels and a cedar sauna
  • Help maintain and move existing yurts and tent
  • All of which requires some skills at carpentry, some plumbing and occasionally working with concrete
  • Also some framing and finishing work for inside a new dome, a dome cafe and a tiny house
  • Ability to safely use a tractor, chainsaw, woodsplitter  and stack wood is a plus since we heat yurts and domes with wood/

We have active solar projects with a goal of ⅓ power generated by solar and we use wood as heat source for much of the resort and also the Event Space

  • Help to maintain existing structures

Skills:

  • Attention to detail, including following plans, working as part of a team
  • Skillful and safe use of tools, taking care of them, cleaning up the site, and returning tools!!
  • Willing to do demanding but rewarding projects and learn alongside people very experienced or just learning some new skills
  • Be willing to work in and adapt to a challenging rural environment; inventory sometimes is a challenge, while we in recent years have faced droughts, fires and covid but still going after 21 years!

 
Essential Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and outgoing personality
  • Participate in a fun and dynamic team environment
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure, do multiple tasks, prioritise tasks and take initiative
  • Pay attention to detail and fully complete tasks
  • Enjoy being in a rural area of Cape Breton

General information:

  • The applicant must be a Permanent Resident, Citizen, International Student or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
