Role: Join our Fundraising Team
Organization: Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada
Location: virtual/remote, anywhere in Canada

Are you passionate about using your skills to help make Canadian cities more sustainable? Would you like to join a team with a clear focus and goals?

We are looking for new members for our Fundraising Team in several areas.

Seeking positions as a Campus Ambassador, Content Creator and Outreach Volunteer.

BACKGROUND

A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) is an urban-centred region where teams educate and engage people in activities to develop a culture of sustainability. BEC Canada (BECC) is a national charity that supports development of BECs in Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver.

Campus Ambassador

  • Represent the organization on campus and promote initiatives within the student community 
  • Share social media content regularly to increase awareness and engagement
  • Recruit new volunteers and encourage student participation
  • Organize or support small-scale campus activities or events
  • Act as a liaison between students and the organization
  • Contribute to building a long-term campus network and presence
  • Provide insights on student interests and trends to improve outreach strategies
  • Support grassroots marketing and peer-to-peer engagement

Content Creator

  • Create engaging social media content including short-form videos, graphics, and written posts for platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Conduct and edit volunteer interviews to produce storytelling-driven content (e.g., testimonials, reels)
  • Develop educational and vision-based content aligned with sustainability and Biosphere Eco-City themes
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and batch-produce weekly content
  • Edit videos (30–45s format), add captions, and optimize for engagement
  • Design simple visual assets using tools like PhotoShop, Canva or similar platforms
  • Maintain a consistent content pipeline to support weekly posting schedules

Outreach Volunteer

  • Conduct in-person community outreach through surveys, street engagement, and events
  • Interact with the public to raise awareness about sustainability initiatives and collect insights
  • Support execution of activities such as eco-walks, school programs, and community events
  • Use structured talking points and scripts to communicate key messages effectively
  • Assist in gathering photos/videos during outreach activities for content creation
  • Help distribute and manage surveys (digital or paper-based)
  • Provide feedback on community responses and engagement trends
  • Represent the organization in a professional and approachable manner

ORGANIZATION OF THE FUNDRAISING TEAM

The Team is divided into sub-teams for Grants Research, Core Support, Partnerships, and Writing. The team normally meets monthly online and sub-teams may also meet separately. There is a strong link to the BECC Project Development Team.

COMMITMENT

Volunteers are expected to dedicate 3-4 hours per week, including team meetings. The time is flexible around other personal commitments.
