Wanted: Gardeners to Join Our Crew

We're a small, close-knit gardening team working across Toronto (Etobicoke, North York, the Beaches, and more). We garden with native pollinator plants wherever possible, and we don't use fossil-fuel-powered tools or chemical pesticides. If you love healthy soil, native plants, and working outdoors, we'd love to hear from you.

Season: Mid-April through December
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:30am–3pm, with flexibility for part-time hours
Location: Toronto area (job sites vary - Etobicoke, North York, the Beaches, and more)
Contract type: Independent contractor (self-employed / invoice-based) — you'll bill us for hours worked
Vehicle: Strongly preferred, as job sites vary across the city. Mileage paid.

We are seeking gardeners to join our crew — both an experienced gardener and a helper who's starting out. You're a plant lover who enjoys outdoor, hands-on work and finds satisfaction in doing it well. You're curious, dependable, reliable, and want to be part of a small, close-knit team where your opinions and ideas are genuinely respected.

This is an independent subcontractor position that may be a good fit whether you're a seasoned gardener looking for steady seasonal work, or someone earlier in their journey — including anyone getting back into work, considering a career change, or wanting flexible, meaningful outdoor hours.

A driver's licence and personal vehicle are required but not must, as we travel between multiple gardens across Toronto each day (Etobicoke, North York, the Beaches, and more) without a dedicated company vehicle. Mileage is paid.

Working as part of a team, responsibilities include:

• Planting, pruning, dead-heading, trimming, weeding, mulching, and assisting in arranging planters
• Identifying and treating plant diseases and pests
• Identifying plants, weeds, shrubs, and trees
• Designing and planning garden layouts based on sunlight, aesthetics, and seasonal change (experienced gardener)
• Soil testing and amending soil as needed
• Advising on plant and flower care
• Maintaining clean, safe tools and garden sites

Strengths:

• Gardening experience, whether personal, educational, or professional 
• Knowledge of plant identification and basic pest management
• Comfortable with sustained physical work (bending, kneeling, lifting) outdoors, in all weather
• Reliable, punctual, and a genuine lover of gardening, healthy soil, and the environment
• Horticulture, ecology, or Master Gardener training is an asset for the experienced role, though not required
• Comfortable communicating and tracking hours via company app

Equipment:

• Weather-appropriate clothing, gardening gloves, and sturdy closed-toe footwear required
• Personal hand tools welcome (pruners, weeding knife, hand rake, etc.) but not required - we can provide tools; no gas-powered machines used

Hours:

• Monday–Thursday, 7:30am–3pm (end time varies by job)
• Flexible and accommodating for part-time hours, and for personal and family needs whenever possible
• Season runs mid-April through December

Compensation:

• $19–$30/hour, based on experience
• This is an independent subcontractor position (self-employed / invoice-based)
