CRFAIR is a not-for-profit community based organization that acts as a coordinating backbone to a network of food, farm and health organizations (The Good Food Network) working to promote healthy and sustainable food systems in the Capital Region. To learn more about our work, visit crfair.ca.
United Way BC Work Experience Grant is funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.
We have three (3) work experience placements available in the area of Communications & Engagement.
The focus of grant funding is to support individuals who are recipients or eligible to receive income or disability assistance and who may have barriers to labour market participation.

Note: applicants do not need to be actively in receipt of income or disability assistance payments from the BC Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (see BC social supports eligibility) or the Government of Canada.
For applicants who are receiving income assistance, the stipend associated with this position is exempt from BC income eligibility calculations and will not affect the eligibility of individuals participating. Individuals will need to report income earned through the WEOG program for tracking purposes.

As Community Engagement Assistant you will contribute to and execute Flavour Trails™* and Good Food Gathering event plans, participate in team planning meetings, support venues with “trail” assets (banner flags, posters, Map Pull Out distribution), provide in-person tabling and outreach support, and support with event setup and takedown. Ideal candidates value flexible, collaborative, creative work environments and are comfortable with both virtual and in person opportunities to create, connect and engage with the community. Must be comfortable speaking with the public. Some weekends and early evenings are required.
*Flavour Trails™ is a long standing community, agricultural, and food literacy program focused on connecting communities and consumers to local food producers and growers. Signature events in 2026: Saanich Strawberry Festival on July 5 and North Saanich Festival on August 15-16.
The Good Food Gathering in November brings together a wide cross section of community organizations, government, educators, funders, land stewards, students, growers, harvesters, and makers to be inspired by local change making efforts working at the intersection of food and culture, affordability, justice, and environment. The day digs into discussion on actions for collaboration and solutions that inform and advance our work, celebrates our champions and nourishes our relationships and spirits.
As Digital & Visual Storytelling Assistant you will be tasked with supporting the content creation, social media management and social media strategy for CRFAIR’s online platforms including to support creating a more just, sustainable and healthy food system. In this position, you will be encouraged to utilize creative and innovative approaches to communication and engagement using social media, reels and short video, graphic art visual design and storytelling, and traditional media sources. You will coordinate and support the development of a social media campaign, support ongoing communications (newsletter, blog, content creation) and work with CRFAIR’s communications coordinator on promotions for events and initiatives. This position can be adapted to accommodate work from home needs. Photography and videography experience is an asset.
If hybrid (work from home and other locations):
As Good Food Gathering Assistant you will contribute to and execute the annual Good Food Gathering* event plans, participate in team planning meetings, support with event sponsorship identification and requests, help with event setup and takedown, and contribute to the event review and follow up reporting. Ideal candidates value flexible, collaborative, creative work environments and are comfortable with both virtual and in person opportunities to create, connect and engage with the community. Must be comfortable speaking with the public; graphic design experience is an asset. Possibility of very occasional weekend/early evening work.
