Gardening Specialist

Eco-Yards has an immediate need for a Gardening Specialist for the remainder of the 2026 season.

This could be either a part-time or full-time position depending on the preference of the right candidate, and the work available. Gardening work would vary between 2-4 days per week, and the Gardening specialist could be assigned to work as a landscaping crew member for the other available workdays.

Gardening Specialist Role

Gardening specialists would mainly perform maintenance services on our clients’ yards. The gardeners must be self-starters and productive working alone as this would often be the case.

Duties may include:

  • Weeding and caring for the plants in our client’s yards and garden beds.
  • Pruning, and shaping of existing shrubs and trees
  • Planting and transplanting
  • Digging in compost or other material to amend soil
  • Moving and spreading mulch
  • Performing small projects to enhance yards as requested by our clients such as adding edging or small features
  • Other tasks as requested and assigned

Gardening specialists will have:

  • Horticultural experience or training in caring for plants, and plant environments
  • Plant knowledge to identify intentional plants vs weeds
  • Plant knowledge to identify and rectify basic plant problems (pests, over/underwatering, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication and comprehension
  • The ability to communicate well with clients and understand their requests
  • Their own transportation and ability to get themselves and the required tools to work sites

Gardening Specialists and Landscaping Crew will ideally have:

  • Physical labour experience. This is so we know you can safely do work that requires strength, stamina, and good body mechanics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and comprehension in English
  • Respect for the environment and others
  • Willingness to learn the Eco-Yards way of working and caring for client yards
  • Ability to be flexible with tasks and hours
  • Good physical health
  • Positive attitude
  • Responsible and punctual work habits
  • Class 5 driver's license or better and a clean driving record
  • Legal ability to work in Canada
  • Availability to work the remainder of the (through to early to mid-November)
  • Strong attention to detail

Landscaping Crew

The Gardening Specialist will also join the landscaping crew as needed to assist with performing eco-friendly landscape construction projects.

Landscaping crew construction tasks may include:

  • planting perennials, shrubs and trees for projects.
  • moving and spreading soil mulch and other materials
  • other tasks as assigned by the crew leadership

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:

  • Horticulture training, landscaping and gardening experience.
  • Experience with gardening hand tools, and small power tools string trimmers and power saw
  • Familiarity with safety systems and hazard identification
  • Experience and/or comfort driving trucks and towing trailers

WAGES AND BENEFITS:

  • Starting at $25 - $35 depending on qualifications and experience. 
  • Paid holiday and vacation allowance (10%)
  • Mileage and time paid between work sites
  • Flexible with unpaid days off if needed. 

Our season runs to early November, and we typically work Monday to Friday 8:30- 5:00 on site. We remain flexible concerning start and end times throughout the season to accommodate hours of daylight, weather, workload and client preferences. Crew members meet on-site and must have transportation get to work sites on their own. The Gardening Specialist will be assigned company owned tools and is expected to transport them to client’s work sites and keep them stored safely between workdays.
