Position: Events Coordinator
Organization: CAFES (Community Action for Environmental Sustainability)
Location: Ottawa ON (Work from home with in-person attendance at events and meetings required)

Time Commitment: Full-time, 35 hours/week
Start Date: September 14, 2026
End Date: March 31, 2027 (with potential for extension)

CAFES (Community Action for Environmental Sustainability) is a network organization that advocates for environmental sustainability and promotes environmental and climate action and leadership in Ottawa’s neighbourhoods. ROLE AND JOB DESCRIPTION

The Events Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Operations Manager. The role focuses on organizing, promoting, and coordinating a wide range of community events and volunteer activities that advance CAFES’ mission.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan and deliver CAFES-led events such as Green Fair Ottawa, Green Drinks Ottawa, community coffee houses, Lunch & Learns, and community dialogue workshops, and more
  • Coordinate CAFES’ participation in partner and member-led events, including managing information tables and volunteer scheduling
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support CAFES’ outreach and event activities
  • Develop event timelines, logistics, budgets, checklists, and promotional materials
  • Work with the CAFES Communications Coordinator to develop and execute a communications plan for events and initiatives through CAFES’ website, newsletters, and social media channels (including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  • Work with the CAFES Communications Coordinator and graphic designer to create marketing materials and outreach campaigns to boost attendance and community engagement
  • Support sponsorship development, including identifying and securing in-kind or financial support for CAFES events
  • Liaise with community partners, venues, and suppliers to ensure smooth event delivery
  • Track activities and outputs against an agreed-upon work plan using timesheets and regular check-ins.

COMPENSATION

$23/hour, full-time (35 hours per week)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability and community development
  • Event planning and coordination experience (community events, workshops, fairs, etc.)
  • Strong communications and marketing skills, including social media content planning and management
  • Experience maintaining a social media calendar and creating digital content (e.g. Canva, WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities
  • Experience with sponsorships, community partnerships, or donor relations is an asset
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • English fluency required; French an asset
  • Availability for some evenings and weekends.
