Position: Education Program Coordinator
Organization: Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC)

Compensation: $22-26/hr, 40h/week

Position Details:

The Education Program Coordinator works as part of the Ontario Turtle Conservation team, and is responsible for development, implementation, and delivery of the Centre’s Education Program.

The program currently includes delivery of unique and informative presentations and activities to camps, schools, community groups, and visitors to the Education Centre. It is anticipated that the Coordinator will grow the existing programs to make full use of the new Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC) facilities while seeking opportunities to better engage with education programming outside of the centre as well. This role is directly related to the conservation of Ontario’s native turtle species through informing the public and inspiring them to take conservation action. The applicant must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

Qualifications:

  • A post secondary diploma or degree in the areas of conservation, biology, education, or other program relevant to the job duties.
  • Additional training in education/interpretation and knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum would be an asset.
  • Detailed knowledge of the biology of turtles of Ontario, turtle conservation including current threats and their mitigation, and the work carried out by OTCC, is essential.
  • Two or more years of experience in delivering public education, public speaking, and program development to audiences of all ages.
  • Experience in staff supervision and mentoring is preferred
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, ability to safely bend and lift turtles and their containers, is required.
  • A valid driver-s licence is required, along with access to a vehicle.
  • Be well organized, exhibit excellent attention to detail, as well as a willingness to continue learning and collaborating with Centre staff.
  • Valid First Aid training, or the willingness to obtain training prior to the start date, is an asset.
