Hands-on ecological restoration in Saanich parks
Program: Saanich Parks - Pulling Together Program
Location: District of Saanich, Greater Victoria BC
Take care of nature by volunteering with Saanich Parks!

Volunteers with the Pulling Together Program enhance and maintain natural areas by removing invasive plants, planting native plants, spreading mulch, and more.
You will work alongside other volunteers under the guidance of a Lead Steward and can assist with work parties whenever your schedule allows. Volunteering with Pulling Together is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while giving back, staying active, connecting to community, and building your skills. Ages 19+; younger volunteers must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
How to start:
1. View the list of parks that need your help (including the meeting days/times)
2. Email stewardship@saanich.ca , subject: "I want to try drop-in volunteering with Pulling Together" to be connected with the park's Lead Steward. Please include the name of the park(s) you want to volunteer at.
Please wear sturdy, closed-toed footwear and clothes that can get dirty. Long sleeves and pants are generally recommended as some invasive plants can be prickly and/or irritating to exposed skin.
Interested in a leadership role with Pulling Together? Become a Lead Steward!
As a Lead Steward, you would be the project leader for a given restoration site in a Saanich park. You would welcome, train, and supervise other volunteers to ensure that all work is done in compliance with Saanich policies and guidelines and communicate with Parks staff on a regular basis (including developing an annual work plan). You would also act as an ambassador for Saanich Parks while at work parties, informing the public about restoration activities, park conservation, and the Pulling Together program. This is a great way to develop leadership skills and learn more about the field of ecological restoration. Ages 19+; we request a minimum commitment of one year for Lead Stewards.
