From the grassroots to the forest canopy, from the classroom to city hall, we work alongside communities to build a brighter future for the people and places we love.

We are committed to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in both our hiring practices and work environment. We encourage women, people of Indigenous ancestry, people of colour, and LGBTQIA2SP individuals and members of other diverse communities to apply for careers with our organization.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you a videographer and editing wiz with a passion for environmental advocacy? If so, we’d love to work with you!

We are looking for someone with experience in video production who can expand our shortform and longform video creation work. In this role, you'll craft videos to inspire existing members and new audiences to protect the places we love. You’ll create content to raise awareness about our environmental campaign areas, our organizational impact, and amplify the voices of community partners who are making positive change for the environment.

The Videographer & Video Editor will be part of the Communications team. As a video storyteller, you will work collaboratively with our staff, partners and network of inspiring local leaders. Sierra Club BC maintains a largely remote work environment with some in-person work and events mainly in Victoria and/or Vancouver, B.C. Due to this hybrid nature, applicants based in the Lower Mainland or Southern Vancouver Island will be prioritized.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop shortform videos for social media and longform videos for YouTube and film screenings. This includes:
  • Pre-production: Brainstorming and pitching video ideas, storyboarding, scripting, and organizing film shoots.
  • Production: Recording video and audio on location and working alongside staff and community partners for interviews.
  • Post-production: Processing and editing footage, colour grading, sound mixing, and adding visual effects (ability to create motion graphics is an asset).
  • Manage and organize our video media library
  • Manage multiple video projects to hit deadlines for key deliverables

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience creating strategic video content for different platforms and audiences, including shortform videos for social media and longform content for YouTube and film screenings.
  • Proficient with video editing software (Adobe Premiere).
  • Proficient with videography and audio recording.
  • Ability to take complex ideas and translate them into digestible, accessible content.
  • Deep commitment to Sierra Club BC’s values and environmental goals, and ability to convey it persuasively to current and prospective supporters.
  • Experience working in intercultural contexts and upholding JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) principles.
  • Ability to travel for film shoots (mainly in Vancouver and Victoria, with occasional multi-day shoots around B.C.).
  • Nice-to-haves
  • Experience with creating motion graphics (using the Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Ability to appear on camera as a spokesperson and interviewer.
  • Experience with drafting scripts, particularly for shortform video.
  • Familiarity with environmental issues in B.C., particularly around our main campaign areas of old-growth forests, climate and biodiversity.

COMPENSATION

  • This is a four days per week (30 hours) position, with a starting pay rate of $52,000-$61,000
  • Four weeks of paid vacation; additional week of paid time off during holiday office closure.
  • Benefits package including health, vision, dental and other supports for wellness.
  • Access to our storytelling gear library including a Mac desktop for video editing, Sony camera and lenses, drone, gimbal, microphones, Adobe Creative Suite subscription and more!
  • Personal and professional development opportunities are available.
