Recycling Alternative is a leading Vancouver based recycling company, delivering innovative collection, processing, and waste reduction solutions for over 35 years.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to lead our residential collection operations. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, fleet performance, route optimization, employee development, health and safety compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence while helping drive innovation through technology, data-driven decision making, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Lead day-to-day residential collection operations.
- Ensure all collection services are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contractual requirements.
- Monitor daily performance metrics and service levels.
- Coordinate operational resources to maximize productivity and service quality.
- Develop and implement operational improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Fleet & Route Management
- Oversee fleet utilization, performance, and operational readiness.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure preventative maintenance programs are followed.
- Monitor vehicle uptime and minimize service disruptions.
- Analyze routes and implement route optimization strategies.
- Utilize GPS, routing, and fleet management software to improve operational efficiency.

Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership and supervision to drivers, technicians and field personnel.
- Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and mentor employees.
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused workplace culture.
- Address employee concerns and support conflict resolution efforts.
Health & Safety
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and transportation safety standards.
- Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and training initiatives.
- Maintain a strong safety culture across all operations.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare operational reports and KPI summaries.
- Monitor collection completion rates, route performance, and service metrics.
- Communicate operational updates to senior leadership.
- Collaborate closely with customer service, administration, and fleet maintenance teams.
- Support customer issue resolution and service recovery efforts.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve operational performance, customer service, and cost efficiency.
- Support implementation and enhancement of company technology platforms.
- Work collaboratively with software and technology teams to improve operational systems and reporting capabilities.
- Participate in strategic initiatives that support company growth and innovation.

Technical Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated professional experience in transportation fleet operations and logistics.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of collection operations, routing, dispatching, and fleet management.
- Experience managing drivers and field personnel.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail).
- Experience using routing, GPS, fleet management, and operational software systems.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment and respond to changing priorities.
Preferred
- Experience working within recycling, waste collection, or environmental services.
- Experience working alongside technology teams to improve operational software systems.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary workforces.
- Transportation, logistics, fleet management, or safety certifications.
