About BEST Mobility

Since 1991, Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) has worked to make sustainable transportation options better and more accessible. Our programs include initiatives that promote sustainable transportation and mobility equity, including programs that help newcomers, high school students, and seniors access the transportation options they need. We believe that everyone should be able to move around their communities safely and with dignity.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Program Coordinator will lead BEST’s transportation training program for equity-deserving populations in Metro Vancouver. This position is responsible for planning and executing our transportation training program in accordance with our funding sources and in collaboration with our funders, partners, and community collaborators.

This initiative aims to introduce equity-deserving populations in Metro Vancouver—primarily older adults, newcomers, and youth—to active, multi-modal transportation options and help participants navigate the transportation system, understand accessibility features, and build healthy habits and the skills needed to explore their communities independently, confidently, and safely. The project goal is to empower communities to stay connected and independent.

The Program Coordinator will take a lead role in building on the success of previous years and amplifying the reach and impact of our programs. The role will also lead content development, workshop coordination, and facilitation. In addition, this role contributes to grant writing efforts, data collection, analysis, and report writing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project planning and lead the development of workshops and engagement materials for different groups, including older adults, newcomers, youth and high school students in collaboration with our partners.
  • Collaborate with partners, conduct outreach to our network, including senior-serving organizations, high schools and youth-serving organizations, libraries, and neighbourhood houses, and schedule workshops.
  • Lead workshop and excursion facilitation, providing a supportive learning environment for participants and volunteers.
  • Onboard volunteers and plan workshops and excursions with their support.
  • Lead basic data analysis and program evaluation activities.
  • Prepare final reports for our program funders.
  • Support the team with grant writing.
  • Assist with other programs as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in project planning and coordination.
  • Experience facilitating groups (preferably with equity-deserving populations) or delivering workshops for diverse populations.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with data collection and basic quantitative data analysis.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders and community partners.
  • Graphic design skills (e.g., Canva).
  • Passion for active transportation, community engagement, climate action, and advocacy for better travel choices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.

This position requires the person to be available three days a week (6 hours per day) to work with the team, attend meetings, conduct outreach, answer emails and questions, and facilitate workshops and excursions with volunteers.
