What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated individuals who want to learn, grow, and work with people!

  • Start Date: May 12, 2026
  • Contract Duration: May 12, 2026 – September 4, 2026 (4 month option)
  • Contract Duration: May 12, 2026 – October 30, 2026 (6 month option)
  • Wage: $18.00- $19.00 per hour (based on experience) + 4% vacation pay
  • Hours: 35–40 hours per week (includes evenings and weekends)

The Outdoor Program Facilitator role at the Kinark Outdoor Centre (KOC) is a unique opportunity to develop transferable skills in recreation, education, social services, and outdoor leadership—while making a genuine difference in the lives of children, youth, and families!

ABOUT THE KINARK OUTDOOR CENTRE

The Kinark Outdoor Centre provides inclusive, experiential outdoor and therapeutic recreation programs for children, youth, and families, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The KOC customizes youth experiences for a broad range of youth serving organizations to help them succeed in reaching their goals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AND LEARN

As an Outdoor Program Facilitator, you’ll work alongside experienced supervisors and gain practical experience in:

  • Leading outdoor recreation activities and engaging group programming
  • Supporting children and youth with diverse abilities and needs
  • Building leadership, communication, and facilitation skills
  • Managing group dynamics and fostering positive peer interactions
  • Ensuring participant safety, including lifeguarding and waterfront supervision
  • Problem-solving, adaptability, and teamwork in a fast-paced outdoor setting

You’ll facilitate activities such as:

  • Spring / Summer /Fall: Rock climbing, high ropes, hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, arts & crafts, large group games, low ropes course, archery, and more.

You’ll also help prepare facilities, maintain equipment, and learn emergency and risk-management procedures—valuable experience for future careers in recreation, education, and social services.

QUALIFICATIONS

National Lifeguard Certification, First Aid & CPR-C, experience working with children or youth.

ASSETS; BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience in outdoor recreation or environmental programming
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)
  • Post-secondary education or interest in recreation, child & youth care, education, social work, or related fields

TRAINING, SUPPORT, & CAREER DEVELOPMENT

KOC is committed to supporting staff growth. You’ll receive paid and/or in-house training, including:

  • Challenge Course Facilitation
  • National Life Saving Certification
  • Program Facilitation & Group Leadership
  • Autism-Specific Training
  • Emergency response and risk management

These certifications and experiences are highly transferable and valuable for future roles in recreation, education, healthcare, and social services.
