Nature and Scope:

Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve Ltd is seeking an individual to fill the position of Outdoor Experience Guide.

This position is a contract role responsible for delivering and facilitating recreational and educational programs throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons. This position will also include guiding tours on our Canopy Tour boardwalk. The Outdoor Experience Guide will report directly to the Lead Guide and Group Sales Coordinator. This position will not require the supervision of staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong support to the shared values of Haliburton Forest: safe, collaborative, professional, productive, and proud
  • Follow legislation and standards of: Workplace Violence and Harassment policies, AODA, Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Provide safe and exciting experiences for our guests such as canoeing, hiking, and challenge course facilitation
  • Facilitate outdoor education programs for youth groups and adult groups, including events such as weddings and family reunions
  • Act as a liaison with teachers and group leaders
  • Provide site support including set-up of program equipment and general site maintenance
  • Lead Canopy Tours
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Canopy Tour
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C
  • Valid G Driver's License (F-Class License an asset)
  • Bronze cross, or NLS swimming certification (an asset)
  • Climbing/belaying experience (Level 1 or 2 ACCT an asset)
  • ORCKA paddling levels
  • Current and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Thorough knowledge of outdoor education practices and excellent customer service skills
  • Experience in outdoor education program planning and delivery
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good communication skills
  • Strong initiative to do the right thing at the right time, without being asked
  • Additional languages spoken and understood an (asset)

Must Be:

  • Self-driven
  • Outgoing with a positive attitude
  • Comfortable presenting in front of groups as well as one on one
  • Comfortable and confident working at heights
  • Safety conscious
  • Experienced at safely managing groups of varying interests and dynamics

Schedule:

A typical schedule will be:

  • 5 days per week
  • 8-hour days
  • 40 hours per week
  • Operating hours between 8am and 5pm daily

This position may require you to work overnight, weekends, and hours outside of the typical 8am-5pm.
