Hiring: Organic Vegetable and Seed Farming
Farm: Three Forks Farms

Location: Manitoulin Island, Ontario
Housing: On farm accommodation available for 1 position and will be negotiated based on experience.

Currently seeking applicants to fill multiple positions on the farm.

Rather than assigning people to positions, we will be adapting positions to meet the strengths of the chosen applicants.

This way we can ensure that people are in the best position for them, their experience and their skills development goals.

Below is an outline of the roles we are seeking to fill, along with a summary of our operation and general employment summary.

Current Jobs Available for 2026:

  • Store/ Pack House Assistant: Flexible PT up to 25hrs
  • Seed Farmer: Min 1 day per week (seed only) up to full time (combined vegetables and seed production May to October
  • Full Season Farm Crew: Full Time May to October
  • Summer Farm Crew: Full Time May to August

Three Forks Farms is an organic vegetable, seed and chicken farm located on Manitoulin Island. We have been growing in Northeastern Ontario for 10 years, to both direct to retail and wholesale markets. In 2026 we will be operating our Farm Store and our weekly CSA food box program of 150+ members. All production is in adherence with the organic standards as Three Forks Farms is certified by Eco Cert Canada.

We are seeking staff to join us for the 2026 season who are looking to work hard, expand their knowledge of organic food production, and work with the team to produce high quality, safe organic foods in a timely and efficient manner.

Store/ Pack House Assistant

Working with various members of the team, the Assistant will be responsible for packaging and selling produce in our farm store and preparing foods for our CSA program.

The position will be focused primarily on washing and packing vegetables, with additional selling of products in our farm store.

7-25 hours to start Manitoulin

Pack House Qualifications:

  • physically fit and strong
  • an ability to work in groups with a positive team attitude
  • able to work under pressure and on tight timelines, in physically demanding conditions
  • understand hustle and able to maintain pace of work
  • have good communication skills
  • positive attitude, self motivated, flexible, and respond well to feedback
  • able to problem solve and create individualized efficiencies as you work
  • able to work some weekends
  • enjoy music, the outdoors and making life’s moments fun while being productive
  • willing and able to follow government public health and safety guidelines and recommendations.
  • experience in retail sales

Optional additional assets:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Experience working on an organic or ecological farm
  • Bi-lingual (Oral French and English)

Salary: $20/ hr depending on experience plus access to lots of fresh delicious food

Farm Crew

Summary of Role and Responsibilities: Farm Crew (Summer x 2 , Full Season x1)

The Employee will be responsible for working with fellow employees to ensure that daily tasks are completed according to expectations. These tasks will include:

  • Attending morning meetings to learn about the tasks of the day, contributing to the workplan and understanding the expectations of the day.
  • Work with the team to do regular tasks including: planting, weeding, harvesting of vegetable and seed crops
  • Participate in post-harvest handling and packaging to meet three forks farms standards while following food safety policy.
  • Participate in the care of the broilers and hens when needed, including loading for processing
  • Work in the Farm Store when necessary, serving customers, stocking foods and ensuring quality is maintained.
  • Complete all records as required for each task.
  • Communicate with the owners about successes and challenges of the work, including brainstorming solutions to improve production, workflow, efficiency, profitability and staff satisfaction.
  • Work with the team to create a safe and fun work environment that treats all people with dignity and respect.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required but not common.

Salary: $18-20/ hr depending on experience plus additional bonuses and benefits

Terms of Employment

  • Full Season Position (1 Available): Beginning April 27th, common work days are Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with more hours earned based on performance if desired. Contract term will be until October 31, 2026
    • Can be combined with Seed Farmer Position if experience warrants
  • Summer Season Position (2 Available): Beginning April 27th, common work days are Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with more hours earned based on performance if desired. Contract term will be until October 31, 2026

Seed Farmer

Summary of Role and Responsibilities: Seed Farmer

The Seed Farmer will be the lead on the seed enterprise at Three Forks. Working alongside one of the owners, the seed farmer will oversee the planting, maintenance and harvesting of the seed garden.

  • Communicate with farm crew about what is happening in the seed garden and upcoming work requirements
  • Assist with the production planning (off season)
  • Organize the planting based on the field planting map
  • Oversee weeding and maintenance of seed
  • Harvest seed and dry accordingly
  • Participate in seed cleaning activities

Salary: $18-22/ hr depending on experience plus additional bonuses and benefits

Terms of Employment

  • Starting with occasional off site/remote work in the off season, but onsite work require May 15th. Position will be a minimum of 8 hours per week but could be combined with other positions to be up to full time should the applicant be interested on other work on the farm.
