Hiring: Pit and Quarry Rehabilitation Supervisor
Organization: The Ontario Aggregate Resources Corporation
Location: Burlington, Ontario / Hybrid, plus travel (see below)

The Ontario Aggregate Resources Corporation (TOARC) is the trustee of the Aggregate Resources Act and plays a unique role in Ontario: collecting and publishing data on the aggregate industry and leading the rehabilitation of abandoned pits and quarries across the province.

We are seeking a Pit and Quarry Rehabilitation Supervisor who is motivated by applied environmental restoration, enjoys working in the field, and takes pride in seeing complex projects through from concept to completion. This role is ideal for someone who combines technical skill with strong judgement, enjoys working with landowners and contractors, and is comfortable managing multiple projects across diverse landscapes.

About the Role

The Rehabilitation Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing rehabilitation and restoration projects on abandoned aggregate properties throughout Ontario. You will work closely with landowners, consultants, contractors, and internal MAAP staff to develop practical, site-appropriate rehabilitation designs and oversee their successful implementation.

This position involves significant fieldwork and travel across Ontario. When not on assignment, the role is based out of TOARC’s Burlington office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement rehabilitation and restoration plans for former pits and quarries
  • Coordinate projects from design through completion, including public tendering processes
  • Manage contractors and provide on-site oversight to ensure work meets design, safety, and quality standards
  • Collaborate with landowners and stakeholders to develop appropriate, long-term rehabilitation outcomes
  • Apply best practices in grading, slope stabilization, erosion control, and ecological restoration
  • Track project progress, budgets, and timelines, and prepare clear documentation and reports

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in landscape architecture, environmental science, civil engineering, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience (design, construction, restoration, or project coordination experience preferred)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software and strong general computer skills
  • Experience managing contracts and working with contractors
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Ontario, including overnight travel
  • Valid G Class driver’s licence and eligibility to rent vehicles from commercial rental agencies

Asset Qualifications

  • Knowledge of applicable construction, environmental, and occupational health and safety legislation
  • Experience with grading, slope stabilization, and erosion control techniques
  • Understanding of ecological restoration principles and naturalized ecosystems
  • Experience working with landowners, municipalities, or other stakeholders
  • Ability to review and apply current research and emerging best practices in restoration

What We Offer

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
  • Group health benefits and matching RRSP contribution plan
  • On-the-job training and professional development
  • Transportation provided for fieldwork; travel expenses reimbursed
  • Meaningful work with visible, long-term environmental impact
