The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre (OCWC) has been educating people about wildlife and helping to foster an appreciation of the natural world for over 35 years.

The Centre initially did rehabilitation for orphaned and injured wild mammals, ranging from flying squirrels to river otters. For the first 15 years, the Centre cared for approximately 1,200 animals annually as well as responded to 6,000 – 8,000 human/wildlife conflict calls each year.

In 2005 the Centre redirected its focus to Education and Public Policy Advocacy to address practices that harm wildlife. The Centre is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to establish a better understanding and respect for all wild species through public education and outreach programs; to develop and advocate for progressive environmental and wildlife-sensitive planning policies that promote coexistence; and form partnerships with residents, wildlife and environmental organizations, community associations and government to advocate for these goals.

It is our goal to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining wildlife and wildlife habitat, the protection of biodiversity; give people the knowledge and tools to live in harmony with nature and to work with governments to develop modern coexistence polices and practices while challenging, in order to change, outdates practices that harm wildlife.
