Location: Saskatoon area, Saskatchewan. Current work from home environment. Reliable high-speed video-enabled internet access and a dedicated quiet workspace required.

• Position type: One Year Contract, full time.

• Salary Range: $48,000 - $52,000 per year, based on experience.

Summary

The Conservation Coordinator will support the delivery of the Chapter’s conservation programs, engagement, and campaigns by aiding and coordinating the development and implementation of these activities in ways that promote collaboration and respect and creates outcomes favourable to the goals and values of both our organization and the communities and partners we support.

Being part of a small team, you will take on a wide range of activities to support the chapter’s work. As part of your coordination role, you will also take on key administrative and communications duties, which form a critical and essential component to the delivery and success of our work.

About the Organization

CPAWS (cpaws.org) is a national charitable organization with 13 chapters across Canada, almost 100 staff, and hundreds of volunteers who have helped to protect over half a million square kilometers of Canada's public land and water, since 1963.

CPAWS Saskatchewan (cpaws-sask.org), established in 1976, is dedicated to the preservation and management of healthy and restorable boreal and prairie ecosystems in Saskatchewan. Working in a way that respects the sovereignty and leadership of Indigenous nations, we are focused on conserving nature to respond to the dual crises of accelerated biodiversity loss and climate change.

Our conservation vision is to protect at least half of Canada's public land and water in a framework of reconciliation – for the benefit of both wildlife and humans.

CPAWS Saskatchewan operates on the Traditional Territories of the Cree, Dene, Lakota, Dakota, and Saulteaux (Treaties 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10) and the Homeland of the Metis. Responsibilities

Conservation Coordination - 50%

• Support, and where required, lead, key chapter conservation projects and campaigns.
• Support projects and campaigns led by communities and partners by attending meetings and assisting with project plans, delivery, and administrative tasks.
• Research and respond to relevant conservation issues, related to projects, campaigns and other initiatives.
• Work with team colleagues and project partners (when applicable) to ensure Indigenous perspectives, interests, and values are integrated into project planning.
• Develop and coordinate a collaborative approach with stakeholders and relevant partners, including other eNGOs, governments, Ag & forestry sectors, local/regional advocacy groups, and members of the public at large on various CPAWS-SK programs and campaigns covering boreal, urban, and rural prairie conservation efforts.

• Act as a liaison between Indigenous communities and the organization, ensuring transparency, open dialogue, mutual understanding, and engagement through culturally sensitive communication.
• Support, develop and coordinate team strategies to mitigate negative impacts and enhance positive contributions/outcomes to Indigenous-led and community-led conservation initiatives.
• Cultivate and maintain trusting relationships with wider stakeholders, rightsholders, and partners linked to our conservation efforts in Saskatchewan and at times, across Canada.
• Other conservation related tasks and duties, as required.

Communication - 35%

• Develop and deploy content for CPAWS-SK Social media channels, website, emailing, events, and internal communications.
• Research and advocate for Indigenous rights and work to empower Indigenous perspectives and voices in conservation efforts through communication initiatives and campaigns.
• Assist with campaign events and fundraising, as required.
• Work with other CPAWS chapters and National Office communications staff on coordinated communication strategies.
• Other communication tasks and duties, as required.

Administration – 15%

• Participate in relevant internal and external meetings and working groups, as required.
• Draft and submit chapter financial and other conservation and administrative reporting requirements to CPAWS National Office on a monthly, quarterly and/or ad hoc basis.
• Monitor and manage chapter email portal.
• Coordinate and organize internal and external meetings, as required.

Accountability and Authority

The Conservation Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of CPAWS Saskatchewan Chapter.

Qualifications & Expectations

Essential Assets

• Eligibility to work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residence, or a valid work permit).
• Demonstrable knowledge and passion for conservation and the environment, especially in the Canadian and Saskatchewan context.
• An appreciation of Indigenous leadership on issues like conservation, and a commitment to working in a way that uplifts the central role of First Nations and Métis in Saskatchewan.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts.
• An understanding of how to influence government policy through advocacy.
• Excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail.
• Ability to travel to meetings.
• An inclusive, collegial, and collaborative work ethic with strong teamwork skills.
• A commitment to decolonization and anti-racism.

You May Have

• Relevant educational experience (a lack of formal education should not be a barrier to application, as we will always consider relevant work experience).
• Experience working within the conservation sector or working to create change in other ways (if your experience is outside of our sector, please explain its relevance in your cover-letter).
• Experience engaging with elected officials, bureaucrats, and other decision makers.
• Experience presenting complex information in understandable ways for the public and decision makers.
• Experience working or volunteering in non-profit/charitable sector, or in campaigning or community organizing.
• Project management skills and experience in coordinating community-based initiatives.
