Seed the North is an architect-led ecological restoration company located on a beautiful 160 acre property above the Skeena River, with dramatic views of Stekyoden Peak. Construction of our seed orchard and campus began in 2020. Our context is rural and remote. We work with local craftspeople and locally sourced timber, from harvesting to finishing. We seek beauty in simplicity, with occasional flourishes and eccentricities. Some of our smaller projects lean toward a “Builders of the Pacific Coast” aesthetic, while the larger ones bring together the local timber frame building culture with industrial minimalism. Wood and structural expression feature in all of our projects.

Job Description
We are hiring an intermediate carpenter to put the finishing touches on a three-storey architectural cabin, followed by the above-ground construction of a four-unit Group Cabin (aka Research Station) with accommodations for university collaborators, events, and seasonal team members in the style of a Finnish summer house. Our team of architects, carpenters, local contractors, suppliers and fabricators are ready to support you. Services and foundations were completed last year and wood construction will begin this summer. We will provide a complete set of construction drawings. While it is possible to commute from Smithers or Terrace, residing in Hazelton is preferred and we will support you in this endeavor. The ideal candidate will enjoy living and working in a rural and remote environment, and may enjoy nearby world-class hiking, paddling, fishing, hunting, running, mountain biking and skiing.
In keeping with our commitment to cultivate a diverse and inclusive workplace, we encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized, including First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples, Indigenous peoples of North America, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ+ persons.
