Camp cook, resort cook, lodge cook jobs

Working in accordance with Wildcoast guidelines and training, this position is responsible for preparing meals, camp cleaning, and general organizing duties for the Wildcoast Orca Camp in Johnstone Strait. Position is responsible for helping ensure that guests from many different backgrounds receive rewarding, safe, educational and fun trips. In addition to meal preparation and daily camp cleaning, additional responsibilities may include cutting wood, starting and tending fires in the hot tub, sauna and main tent wood stoves.

Required Qualifications:

  • CPR certification
  • Food safe certification

Principle Duties while in Camp:

  • Prepare all meals for guests and guides while in Orca Camp.
  • Read all Medical Forms of the guests and be aware of any allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Ensure quality control of all meals.
  • Keep required foods separate in case of allergies throughout the season.
  • Prepare and serve fruit, snacks, hot coffee, hot water (for tea) upon guest arrival on the first day
  • Ensure coffee, hot water, and snacks are available to guests anytime during the 4 days in camp.
  • Ensure Coffee and Hot Water is on and ready for 6:00am each morning
  • Ensure Breakfast is hot and ready by 9:00am each morning unless needed earlier due to paddle plans or as otherwise agreed by guides and guests.
  • Coordinate timing with guides to ensure appetizers and or meals are ready when guests arrive back from each kayak trip.
  • Coordinate timing with guides to ensure preparation and packing of lunches for all day paddles is ready prior to guests leaving on day paddles.
  • Ensure the kitchen and dining area is sanitized and clean at all times
  • Clean out each tent, replacing bedding( on transfer day), straighten up camp area, clean toilette area throughout the day as required and bring down waste paper to be transferred out of camp during the guest transfer in and out of Orca Camp
  • Maintain positive attitude and encourage guests to participate in all activities
  • Be responsible for the communal tent at all times. Keeping it clean, the kitchen clean and the fire stoked when needed.
  • Helping to organize and transport all empty rubbermaids, food containers, garbage and empty propane tanks down to the put-in area on transfer day.
  • Helping transport all new supplies up to the main tent on transfer day.
  • Working with the guides to ensure the water system is checked daily.
  • To act as crew on the water taxi during transport to Orca camp.
  • Keep your tent and sleeping area tidy at all times.
  • Participate in pre-season training
  • Ensure you are ready, able and willing to work whenever scheduled.
  • Learn to be responsible for safety and risk management related to Orca Camp activities
  • Arrive at Wildcoast at least one hour prior to guests arrival and or trip departure (at Q Cove or CRWW)
  • Assist with organizing and greeting all guests prior to departure of trip
  • Assist with detailing special client needs and incorporating them in the meal plan/preparation
