OPPORTUNITY — running a business — on the theme of Nature

Needed: Retail/business associate
Store: Birds & nature retail business - opening May/June 2024

Location: Old Chelsea, near Ottawa-Gatineau QC, next to Gatineau Park.

Highly visible location secured in the Village of Old Chelsea, right on the main road into Gatineau Park. Possibly the best location in the Ottawa/Gatineau area for a nature-related business. 12 minutes north of Ottawa.

Do you care about nature? Are you interested in birds and the environment? organic foods? and fine hand-made crafts?

I am looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, organized, action oriented individual, to help open a small retail business focused on selling:

• back-yard bird feeding supplies
• bird watching accessories
• educational products to enhance the enjoyment of nature
• local organic foods, and
• fine hand-made crafts and nature-based gifts.

A unique opportunity to also be engaged with environmental groups, environmental initiatives, and current issues, including education and awareness, and to partner with relevant stakeholders who operate in the region. Lots of potential to do joint activities with these partners once the business is operational.

The business planning is done (although I am open to ideas and your creativity). Business permits obtained. Display furniture acquired. Commercial signage in the works.

Skills/Experience require: 

• Planning the inventory from an extensive roster of suppliers
• Inventory management
• Placing orders
• Pricing
• Setting up sales and financial transactions system
• Development of advertising, branding, and promotional materials, including a basic website design that will eventually include online shopping
• Sales & customer service

Salary: to be discussed based on your experience and availability.  

Hours: Depending on availability, the option of either part-time or full-time for the next 3 months until the store opens, with future options for longer-term partnership.

Optional on-site housing: newly renovated accomodations (2nd & 3rd floors) could be made available.
