Position: Food & Beverage Associate (Updated Posting)
Restaurant: Social Gardener Cafe (at Riverdale Hub)
Location: Toronto ON (Greenwood & Gerrard)

Riverdale Hub is a social enterprise in Toronto’s East End that houses art galleries, co-working and event spaces, and a restaurant. Position Summary:

The Food and Beverage Associate assists with the daily operations of the restaurant and retail market, and reports to the Food & Beverage Manager.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:

Food, Beverage, and Retail Service:

  • Prepare and serve menu orders (e.g., boards, salads, baked goods, hot and cold beverages, non-alcoholic cocktails, and smoothies) and process payments, ensuring all safe food handling standards and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure tidiness, cleanliness, and organization of restaurant and surrounding spaces.
  • Assist Food and Beverage Manager in the training of new employees.
  • Assist Food and Beverage Manager with the supervision and training of Food Service & Hospitality Training (FSHT) program participants in food handling and the preparation of menu items.
  • Ensure supplies (ingredients and packaging) are replenished and report inventory levels to the Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Food and Beverage Manager to document food waste.
  • Ensure all food scraps are placed properly in compost/Bokashi system and all packaging is properly recycled so that we are close to a zero-waste kitchen.
  • Update new product/menu items on food delivery apps (UberEats, DoorDash, Skip the Dishes, Ritual) and POS.
  • Provide support for catered events as needed (i.e., food preparation, set-up, monitoring, and tear down).

General:

  • Ensure all Toronto Public Health regulations, health and safety, pest control and disinfecting standards and procedures are followed.
  • Monitor equipment and report the need for repairs and maintenance to Manager.
  • Assist in marketing and social media activities to promote the restaurant and campaigns.
  • Update in-store signage.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, move product, supplies, equipment and furniture (e.g., patio furniture, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of restaurant experience in the front of house.
  • Barista experience is required.
  • Food preparation experience is required
  • Bartending experience is an asset.
  • Graduate from a Food and Hospitality program is an asset.
  • A valid Food Handler’s certificate is required.
  • Smart Serve certificate is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Touch Bistro POS, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Google Workspace), and food delivery apps (Ritual One, Door Dash, Skip the Dishes, Uber Eats).

 

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, move product, equipment and supplies (e.g., patio furniture, etc.).
  • Flexibility to work various shifts is a must.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, as well as independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Workspace).

Full-time hours: 35 to 40 hours per week

Salary: Starting at $22 per hour, and increasing to $25.05 per hour after the four-month probationary period. The Riverdale Hub pays a living wage for Toronto, and is a non-tipping restaurant.
