Is Shades of Green eco-friendly?

We strive to improve every year on eco-friendly & sustainable gardens. Shades of Green currently has the following in practice:

  • 90% work is done manually with hand shears, hand rakes, hand brooms but we do use a small leaf blower for final 5min clean up
  • pollinator plants, native trees, shrubs & perennials are included in our clients' gardens
  • we do not use pesticides or herbicides or chemical fertilizers
  • we do not maintain lawns and have converted lawns into garden areas
  • we do not cut down plants in the fall, leave for winter interest, food for birds, wildlife & hibernation for beneficial predator insects
  • we use a composted mulch, we do not use mulch that has dye in it
  • we leave a fair amount of leaves in the gardens to protect the plants, insects & wildlfe over winter
  • our pruning processes maintains the natural habit/growth of the plant vs unnatural ball & cone shaped formal pruning
  • we encourage clients & provide edible garden areas, whether it is in a raised planter, pots or sections of the garden
