Position title: Digital Campaign Specialist
Position Type: Full time contract (37.5 hours per week)
Organization: Shift: Action for Pension Wealth & Planet Health (a project of Makeway)
Location: Remote in Canada. Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal preferred. 

Start date: As soon as possible
Compensation: CAD $70,000 - $85,000 based on experience, including a comprehensive health benefits package and four weeks of paid vacation.

About the Role

Shift is seeking a Digital Campaign Specialist to elevate the reach and effectiveness of our advocacy. Succeeding in our mission to organize, educate and empower a growing network of Canadian pension members to constructively engage their fund managers on the climate crisis requires leveling up Shift’s expertise and capacity for digital campaigning. The Digital Campaign Specialist will align Shift’s successful organizing model with best practices in digital-first organizing, giving pension members the tools to advocate for their pension funds to protect their retirement security in a safe climate future.

About Shift

Shift: Action for Pension Wealth and Planet Health (Shift) works to protect pensions and the climate by bringing together pension fund members (beneficiaries) and pension funds to tackle the climate crisis. We help Canadians understand where their retirement wealth is invested and how to engage with the people managing it to address the climate crisis. Now is the time to shift our pension wealth to ensure a climate-safe future.

Shift is a project on MakeWay’s shared platform, which provides operational support, governance, and charitable expertise for changemakers. The shared platform enables more time and money to go towards achieving greater impact. MakeWay is a national charity that builds partnerships and solutions to help nature and communities thrive together.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and implement digital engagement strategies to grow and support Shift’s networks of pension beneficiaries to help them engage constructively with their pensions.
  • Build and support a new national-scale digital campaign on climate safe pensions.
  • Refresh and improve Shift’s CRM, digital action tools, social media channels and website.
  • Assume responsibility for running and updating Shift’s social media channels, website and other digital campaigning products.
  • Work with the Shift team to develop impactful campaigns, communications and actions.
  • Collaborate across organizations in the climate movement to shift Canada’s finance sector.
  • Design digital campaigning and public communications products, such as social media graphics, infographics, logos, briefing notes, presentation decks and reports.

Desired Professional Qualifications:

  • Digital campaign expertise and experience, including best-practice for creating customized digital communications, action tools, managing supporter CRM software tools, website design and upkeep.
  • Experience in community network organizing, including familiarity with best practices and strategy.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to plan and deliver high-quality work within tight timeframes. Proven ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
  • Capable of holding high-level conversations regarding climate, energy and sustainable finance.
  • Writing skills for a public audience, including the ability to synthesize information into useful products for beneficiary education and public communication
  • Organizational skills, such as for maintaining a database of Shift’s contacts and partners and ensuring regular communication with stakeholders and supporters.
  • Skills and experience in graphic design and social media are an asset.

  • Must be able to interact with staff, supporters and external stakeholders from all walks of life with respect and professionalism.
  • Must be able to effectively create and deliver concise and informative communications.
  • Must be organized and able to create work plans and anticipate deadlines, as well as be comfortable juggling multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently. While the Shift team is collaborative and connected, each team member is autonomous in organizing their workday and meeting milestones to achieve our shared goals.

Work Environment:
This position is full time ‘work from home’, with the expectation of local travel to participate in workshops, meetings, and events on evenings and weekends on an occasional basis. Lieu time is granted for work on evenings and weekends. This role will also involve occasional domestic and/or international travel (1-3 times per year). Shift offers a flexible and friendly work environment.
