Position: Farmer's Market Lead

About the Farm:

Started in 2005, Juniper Farm is nestled into the Gatineau hills on a 200-acre property in beautiful Wakefield, Quebec, growing a diversity of vegetables in a 5-acre rotation using organic and biodynamic methods; the farm also produces fermented foods and some prepared foods from our commercial kitchen and is known as an agri-touristic destination.

Production is accomplished through manual labour with support from two tractors. The farm sells its produce to many local restaurants in the Ottawa/Gatineau region, farmer’s markets in Ottawa, through a farmer led co-op, as well as through on-site and online farm stores. As an active member of the thriving local community the farm occasionally hosts events such as dinners, workshops, and festivals.

About the position:

Market Lead

Someone to lead up our farmer’s market side of the farm sales. We attend Westboro Market and Lansdowne Market and will be adding one other market this season.

We are looking for an extroverted, energised, farm/food knowledgeable, and aesthetically-inspired individual to lead up our 3 market days of the week.

Who we are looking for:

• someone who is bilingual (French and English) this is an asset
• someone with a valid drivers license and comfort driving and parking a large farm vehicle in the city
• ability to work long hours ie. 6am-6pm on your feet and moving all day and lifting heavy bins 40lbs
• willingness to work almost all Saturdays AND Sundays between May - November with the occasional requested shift in scheduling
• ability to hold operating a Point of Sale system on device as well as cash in a very busy market environment
• team player
• enjoys connecting with people
• is always trying to educate and sell more local, organic food
• loves local, organic food
• someone very reliable and punctual

This is a full time position (40 hrs a week) from April/May until the end of November. Ideally, We will want you to work on the farm one day a week to be connected to farm inventory and operations.

This position is paid an hourly wage at $17.75 based on the Juniper Farm pay structure for Market Lead. People with farmer’s market experience will be paid in addition to this base wage. The additional benefits afforded to all farm staff including a 25% employee discount at the farm store, access to fresh harvest from the fields as well as non-marketable produce, and inclusion in 2 weekly communal lunches. There is also paid accommodation available for some Farm staff.
